Dear Steve, Maria and family,

I wanted to express my extreme condolences to you. It was a shock to hear about your scary experience and tragic loss of Devon. It is still hard to believe. I remember Devon as a kind youngster on Matthew's hockey teams. We had some good tournaments (Penguins) and city championships (Orange team) together.

I know there is nothing I can do for you or words I can say; however, my thoughts and prayers are with you and your family. My heart aches for you during this incredibly difficult time. I hope you find strength in the love and support surrounding you and reach out to people when you are in need. Grief is hard and sneaks up on you when you are not expecting it. Remember, people don't expect you to be strong.

May your treasured memories make you smile and lessen the hurt in your hearts. Always know, Devon will be remembered in such a kind way.

Sending you prayers for strength as you find your way through each day.

Tania and Matthew Spadaro

One of the many Family Day gatherings with the Kivell side. We always had so much fun. We are so fortunate to have such a fun and loving family. Thank you all of you for being a big part of Devon’s life. “It takes a village to raise a child” - thank you for being a big part of that village.

January 5 , 2025 was a dark day . This is the day that Devon left us.

My name is Geri and my husband’s name is Lee. I’m Julia’s mom and Lee, her stepdad. If you ask anyone I know, they will tell you that I love Julia and Devon dearly.

They were  perfect match and they had a very special relationship. Seeing them so happy made me happy.

Devon truly was a big part of our family. We have had some wonderful vacations together and for that I am grateful because those memories will live on in our hearts forever 💕.

Every time I saw Devon I would give him a big hug and he would awkwardly hug me back. I didn’t care- I wanted him to know that I loved him. We loved him because he was so loving towards Julia.

Devon was kind, funny, respectful, gracious, smart, tall, handsome and just an all around great guy. We knew that he was “ the one” for Julia. It’s not fair.

Now my sweet Julia has 2 angels watching over her, my late mother, Kathleen Somers and of course her beloved Devon.

God Bless his beautiful and kind family. My heart bleeds for his parents, Maria and Steve Kivell, his sisters Sam ( Chris ), Jess ( Steven ) and Katrina.  We know how  proud you are of Devon and how much you love him.

This is not goodbye- Devon , you will live on forever in our hearts and memories.

Fly high Devon !

We love and miss you so very much. Please watch over Julia.

Till we meet again, all our love,

Geri and Lee Aston
