Derwin's obituary
Derwin Sherwood Taka, 57, passed away on July 2, 2024, in Hilo, Hawaii. Born on August 4, 1966, in Hilo, he was a lifelong resident and a respected figure in his community.
Derwin graduated from Waiakea High School and dedicated many years of his career to The Hilo Rice Mill, where he worked as a Supervisor. His leadership and work ethic were highly valued.
Beyond his professional life, Derwin was an avid motorcyclist and a proud member of the Hawaiian Knights Motorcycle Club. His passion for motorcycles was well-known among his friends and fellow club members, bringing joy and a sense of adventure to his life.
Derwin is survived by his fiancée, Wendy Moses; his sons, Daynan (Katie) Taka, Justin (Keola) Taka, and Sheldan (Lei) Taka; Stepsons, Bryson (Pua) Aiona Aka, and Shanon (Kari-Lynne) Andrade-Aiona Aka. His siblings, Shelly (Kelly) Marote, Rhonda (Vernon) Medeiros, Natalie (Woody) Waltjen, and Daniel (Bobbi) Taka Jr. He was also a loving grandfather to Kayden, Kolten, Kaikoa, Stanley, Brie, Lexcie, Kysen, Kysrie, Liem, Chansyn, Bailey Grace, Shaydon, Kiari-Lynne, and Duke. He leaves behind cherished Nieces Danielle, Aubrey, Kristin, Keri, Kailie, Nicole and Nephews Aaron, Johnathan, Ryder, Corey, Cody, Trace, Sean as well as numerous other Aunts, Uncles, Nieces, Nephews and Cousins.
He was preceded in death by his Mother, Charlotte Cabreira; Father, Daniel Taka Sr.; Stepson, Toby Moses, Nephews; Seth and Brad
Derwin's legacy of hard work, dedication, and adventurous spirit will be fondly remembered and sorely missed by all who knew him.
