Derrick James Smith, 38, of Bay City, Michigan, passed away on August 16, 2025. Known for living life to the fullest, he embraced adventure at every turn. He loved fishing at dawn, camping beneath the stars, hunting through the seasons, and enjoying everything the great outdoors had to offer.

A loyal fan of basketball and football, he especially loved cheering on his Detroit Lions, no matter the score. Beyond his hobbies, his greatest joy was spending time with his children, family, and friends, creating cherished memories filled with love and laughter.

Cooking was more than a pastime for Derrick; it was a passion. He was an exceptional chef and proudly took charge of every family gathering, creating meals that brought everyone together.

He is survived by his father, Ronald Smith; his three children, Alexis Smith, David Smith, and Tony Smith; his brother Shaun (Emily) Smith; his sisters Jody Johnson, Kayla (Ben) Smith, and Haylee Smith; 11 nieces and nephews; and many cousins, aunts, uncles, and dear friends.

He was preceded in death by his mother, Veronica Gilbert; grandmother, Carolyn Gilbert; and uncle, Donald Smith.

Derrick will be remembered for his adventurous spirit, his generous heart, and his love of life. May his memory continue to inspire all who knew and loved him.

Service will be held Tuesday, August 26, 2025 at 2:00 p.m. Visitation will take place on Tuesday, August 26, 2025 at the Squires Funeral Home from 9:00 a.m. until time of service. Reception to follow after.
