To me Derek was the type of person who simply made me happy when I was around him. It’s a rare quality for someone to possess the ability to just make people feel good by your presence. Growing up with Derek as one of my friends he could just do that. One of the funniest guys I ever knew. Such a great person. My heart and thoughts are with Derek and his family. Take care.

Derek and family came up to my lake cabin last year. we had a great time and i had no idea of his health issues and i respect their privacy! he was simply amazing with his girls and everyone around him. nothing but positive...and just like that he's gone! really glad i was able to cross paths with him. what a wonderful person.....................
The world was a better place with Derek in it.. miss him

Words can't describe how much we miss Uncle D! He was one of the wisest, most humble and brilliant souls I've ever known in my entire life. Everyone that was lucky enough to know him loved him.
