Derek Lee Russell, born on February 6, 1991, passed away unexpectedly on April 23, 2023. Derek, also known as Cricket, was a genuine and fun-loving person. Derek's heartwarming smile and contagious laughter brightened the lives of everyone who had the privilege of knowing him. His favorite recreational activities included spending time with friends and family.

He is survived by his mother, Lisa Garren; his sons, Harrison and Vincent; his siblings, brother Shane Garren and sister Jade Powell; his grandfather, Steve Russell; his uncles, Daniel, Harold, Randy Russell, and Randy Bivens; and his aunts, Amanda Russell, Miranda Russell, Aimee Bivens Lee and Katrina Bivens. Derek was predeceased by his father, Steve "Marty" Russell; his grandparents, Wilma Hardin, Homer Bivens and Marie Bivens; uncles Jerry, Jack, Eddie Lee, and aunts Lisa Russell, Rose Bivens, and Sandy "Shannon" Harris.

A passionate music lover, Derek held a deep appreciation for artists like Tupac, Boozie, Eminem, Haystack, and many more. He enjoyed watching performances from his favorite athlete, Michael Jordan, and admired anything related to the iconic basketball star. Derek's favorite colors were black and white, which reflected his straightforward and honest personality. Among his greatest accomplishments was completing a two-year course at Lincoln Tech, where he majored in diesel mechanics.

Derek's legacy will be remembered through the strong family bonds he forged, and the way he wore his heart on his sleeve. One of the most valuable lessons he had to share with others was to obey authority, a message that stems from  life experiences.  The bonds Derek shared with family and friends placed such an impact, he will be greatly missed, forever loved and never forgotten.
