Derek's obituary

Derek Michael Martin, 42, resident of Weare, NH, died on October 4, 2024 at Cleveland Clinic, Cleveland, Ohio after courageously living life with a congenital heart defect.

He was born in Nashua, New Hampshire on November 18, 1981, the son of Michael Martin and Mary (Larpenter) Haggerty. Derek was raised and educated in Wilton, NH and Greenfield, NH, having graduated from Conval High School, Class of 2001.

Derek was employed by Asplundh Tree Expert Company, Concord, NH. He was a former and proud member of the Wilton Fire Department, Wilton, NH.

He loved riding his motorcycle and four-wheeler and took pride in caring for his yard. However, his greatest joy was his daughter, Delaney, who was the center of his world. Derek was one of the most loyal, kindhearted, hardworking people one could know. He was always willing to help a friend or neighbor and held in highest priority spending time with his family. He was strong and brave, never letting his health define him and was a true, real-life hero.

Family members include his loving wife, Christen Martin of Weare, NH; daughter, Delaney Martin of Weare, NH; father, Michael Martin and stepmother Priscilla Martin of Francestown, NH; mother, Mary Haggerty and stepfather Gary Haggerty of Greenfield, NH; a sister and nephew, Brandi Martin and Anthony Castanza of Nashua, NH; father and mother-in-law, Charles and Lydia Peak of New Boston, NH as well as his aunts, uncles, cousins and many “friends that are like family”.

Memorial visiting hours will be held on Saturday, November 2nd from 1:00-3:00pm in the Smith & Heald Funeral Home, 63 Elm Street, Milford. In lieu of flowers, to honor Derek, please consider doing an act of kindness, help a neighbor, enjoy extra time with your friends and family or become an organ donor.
