Derek Koshman, May 1, 1984 – July 15, 2025

It’s with heavy hearts that our family announces the passing of Derek Koshman, who left us far too soon at the age of 41. Derek passed away in Nanaimo, BC, on July 15, 2025, leaving behind family, friends, and many who loved him deeply.

Derek was born and raised in Moose Jaw, Saskatchewan. He’ll be remembered for his quick wit, infectious laugh, and larger-than-life personality. In his younger years, he loved music, sports, camping, and spending time with friends and family.

Derek is survived by his son, Kobane Koshman; his mother, Melanie Alix; his father, Daniel Koshman; his sister, Tara Koshman (Jamie Cullimore), and their daughter, Alivia; and his brothers, Tanner Alix and Logan Alix. He’s also remembered with care by Lisa, the mother of his son, along with numerous aunts, uncles, cousins, and lifelong friends.

Derek was predeceased by his brother, Dylan Koshman, in 2008, a heartbreak that stayed with him for the rest of his life. He also joins his aunt Gaylene Volk, uncle Nick Koshman, and his grandparents: Gladys and Steven Koshman, Hazel and Otto Zopf, and Robert and Denise Alix.

A celebration of Derek’s life will be held on Saturday, August 23rd at 2:00 PM at École Palliser Heights School, 1140 Simpson Ave, Moose Jaw, SK S6H 4M8. All are welcome to join in remembering and honoring Derek. If you have a story you'd like to share there'll be an open mic opportunity.
