Obituary: Derek Gouchee (1957 – 2024
Derek Gouchee, beloved son, brother, father, and friend, passed away peacefully on Thursday, June 20th at the age of 66. Derek was the cherished son of Gwen and Vern Gouchee, and a loving brother to Kevin and Shelley. Derek and his siblings were born in Edmonton, Alberta, but when he was 12years old the family became residents in Delbrook, North Vancouver. Derek’s journey through life was marked by a deep appreciation for his friends and a zest for adventure. Growing up in his teens amidst the natural beauty of North Vancouver, he developed a lifelong passion for hiking, kayaking, tennis, hockey, and skiing. These pursuits not only brought him joy but also fostered enduring friendships that enriched his life immeasurably.
Later in life Derek and his wife, Sue, decided to move to the Okanagan where they found a serene and fulfilling environment to raise their son Victor. Derek and Sue would soon find all of their free time eaten up by taking Victor to one of his many sports. Derek dedicated himself to fatherhood and took immense pride in witnessing Victor grow into the remarkable person he became. Derek’s greatest source of pride and joy was his son, Victor.
Those who knew Derek will remember him for his humor, his warm heart, and how he loved a good party. His large group of friends were so important to him and he loved just bantering back and forth with their constant one-liners.
Derek’s spirit will live on in the hearts of his family, friends, and all who had the privilege of knowing him. May he find eternal peace in the embrace of the great outdoors he cherished so dearly.
Rest in peace, Derek. You will be deeply missed and fondly remembered.
