Having just learned of Dennis’s passing I am truly shocked he is no longer with us. He made Physical Therapy something to look forward to. We talked about concerts we had seen and the love of our granddaughters.
Dennis loved telling soccer stories about the girls..
Sheri and I can’t thank Dennis and Justin enough for the care we received while we went there.

May He Rest In Peace.

Justin and Ryan: I don't know why it took so long for the Republic to print something, but I just found out today, six months later, about your Dad, and am totally shocked and saddened.

I pretty much had my own room there for 20 years, and can't begin to describe how many great memories I have of him.

Although very belated, if you have any questions or need any help, please let me know.

My heart and soul go out to all of Dennis' family and friends. I am shocked. I dropped by the office on Maryland last week to give Dennis a big exercise ball I promised him. The place was all locked up. I had no idea he was ill and am devastated. Myself, many friends, sis-in-law, mother-in-law all got the best PT ever in that office. Dennis' sense of humor and that sideways smile could always make me feel better. I have lost a trusted, loved friend. He shared his healing powers with so many! I will miss seeing Dennis and Justin and Kim. Blessings to all of you. Pat Rink

I just tried calling Dennis this morning to refer a friend for an appointment. I had not talked to him for a long time and wanted to catch up. I was in total shock when I read of Dennis’s passing. Dennis was a mentor and close friend to my daughter, Jaimie Rush Forbes, when she was a PT student. Our family and many friends were always referred to Dennis over the past 25 years. My husband, Mike, and myself spent endless hours with Dennis after we each had two knee replacements. We never left the office without a new joke to tell. Dennis was more than a PT to our family. He will be dearly missed. Our love, prayers and support to his family.

Back in 1995, I was privileged to have been a PT tech. while applying for graduate school. Dennis was always making jokes pulling pranks and keeping the entire staff on their toes. A specific story I can recall--Dennis had opened a twinkie and left it in his desk drawer for sometime before I even learned about it. Fast forward 20 years, I had spoken to him and recalled the twinkie. He said he still had it. I asked if I could borrow it for my sons science experiment and lo and behold we got a very old twinkie. We held onto that twinkie for about a year (along with our own experiemental twinkie) and it was returned-fully intact!!! I learned so much from him, but mostly how to laugh and have fun while working. I had not realized of his passing-until a friend was looking for a PT -of course I referred her to the best one I knew! My condolences to his family-he will be missed by so many!! I am blessed and thankful to have know him!

Dennis, you were an amazing PT, friend and person. I will forever remember our conversations on the phone about Medicare PT billing amongst other things. I often referred many friends to you for rehab as you were an amazing physical therpist. Thank you for always helping my friends....losing you on this earth was a heartbreak. You will be so missed. Love you and will cherish our over 40 years of friendship forever.

Just saw this and am so sad. He was the best PT person ever. Always made me laugh. He will be missed terribly. My condolences to all of his family and employees.

Dear St. James family - I was a client/patient of Dennis’ over a number of years. I was just made aware of his passing and am deeply saddened by the tragic news. Please know you have my deepest sympathy for your loss. Dennis was larger than life. He was a dedicated and highly skilled, no nonsense physical therapist wrapped in to this retro 60’s/70’s energy burst of a mountain man. I loved him. No one could question his expertise or his work ethic. It was so great that the music in his office was Bob Seger, the Marshall Tucker band and nothing post 1978. The entire time he administered treatment he told stories of his family (and occasionally his disgust with politics or his love of the outdoors). I had the pleasure of meeting Justin once and though I never met his wife, Kathy or son, Ryan, I heard so many stories (sometimes repeatedly) of all of you and especially his grandchildren. All of his stories including the soccer games and quotes of his granddaughters were conveyed (again sometimes repeatedly) with humor and a slight cantankerous edge. Although somehow masked as complaints, every story reflected his love, joy and pride in all of you. Please know that I am so sorry for your loss. I will miss him. Your family, our community, our nation and the world lost a wonderful soul. May he rest in peace. With deepest sympathy, Mary Murguia
He was the best PT I've EVER been been to...and for a while with a bad back, I went to several. Dennis always did what was best for the problem as he saw it .... he did not simply do the standard exercises that most other PTs advised. In addition to being the best Physical Therapist, he was one of the kindest, gentlest, funniest men I've known. It breaks my heart that he is gone and I wish the best for his family as they deal with his absence.

Dennis would always provide me with print-outs of exercises to take home along with interesting gadgets like foam covered dowel rods. I told him he was like the MacGyver of the PT world. I have a whole basket of Dennis gadgets like pulleys, headbands with laser pointers, thera-bands, rubber balls and more. Dennis would say, "You just need to exercise the sh*t out of it! Do these exercises everyday." That's what Dennis taught me. So, I've listened to you Dennis. Thank you for your wise words. I think of him every morning while I'm doing one of his recommended exercises. What a wonderful godly man. I am so blessed to have been under his care for so long.

I am so sorry to hear of Dennis’ passing. I was a patient of his over the course of several years and several different ailments. I always enjoyed visiting his office and I am a proud graduate and recipient of his SIU T-shirt.

I met Dennis twice in my life. Both times were unforgettable. I remember shaking with laughter until my belly was aching. Felt like I was a kid again. To make someone laugh like that is a gift Dennis had. I will miss him. He was also incredibly nice to my wife and son, when we were hanging out one time, making them laugh. We will miss him dearly and our thoughts are with his family. Alexander, Eva and Alexander Jr.

Dennis was my best friend in high school and while at Quinnipiac we remained in touch. Many concerts at, I think, Yale bowl, gatherings with other school friends at his apartment in Hamden, A snow filled winter camping trip to the white mountains, newfound lake, in New Hampshire. He got some tickets to a concert at his previous high school and there was a catch cause it was only open to current students, but charming Dennis, the don't take no Dennis, mr silver tongue Dennis went and spoke to someone in the school admin and of coarse they let our group in. Well, the band was a new, up and coming group =, like huge 15 band members plus stage hands turns out to be a little known band called Chicago Transit Authority. an amazing once in a life time show, Loved them ever since every minute with that guy was a trip, a laugh a second. Our personalities played off each others and always manage to find the humor in any situation. When ever he had be something on his mind Dennis would get all quiet and stoic, out of character for him, but Id say something stupid or kick in a artist on the 8 track player and he'd be back to his ole self. Every morning I'd pick him up for school, he'd jump in pull what ever I had playing out of the 8 track and put in what his selection was. that was the rule "shot gun picks the tunes"
Out of all the people in my life he is the only one that I have thought about on a regular interval, and had hopes of retiring and possibly taking a road trip to reconnect with him and his life. sadly shoulda coulda woulda, will live with that regret now and forever. I vowed not to go to a class reunion until our 50th but I heard he attended the 43 ish one and decided to attend the 45th in hopes that he would be there. Sadly that didn't happen. I am happy that all the other people that I have been reading on this comment got to share there lives with him and his life long partner Kathy. I will continue to miss him as you all do
ps Jeanne I have THE fateful story of being in the car with Dennis in your dad's monster Chrysler/Plymouth station wagon the last day of school junior year

Dennis said, "take whatever you have (diagnosis) and you just deal with it!.... you have the time, make it your full-time job!"
In response to "What did you learn from Dennis?"
words cannot describe how sad we are We hold Dennis in our thoughts and smile at the memories. Sending Love and Strength. Tears as I write this. We will always remember the lobster bake and Dennis with the lacrosse stick and marching the lobsters to the Pot. He was so funny and will always cherish the time We had with him. Always here for you (everybody) Please communicate anytime. Rob & Susan
To the St. James family,
I am sorry to see that Dennis has passed away. I haven't seen Dennis since Penney High School. I just remember he always had that smile for just about anything. Easy going almost always. I'm sorry for your loss and offer my condolences to the family. I know he will be missed.
