Dennis Michael Smith, 78, of Lincoln, CA, passed away on August 13, 2024. Dennis was born February 17, 1946, in Brooklyn, NY, the son of Daniel H. Smith and Hellen R. Glasscock.

Dennis grew up in Angel's Camp, CA, and Hayward, CA, graduating from Mt. Eden High School in 1963. He then moved to San Jose, CA, and began his career in plastering, working for 40+ years with Daniel Smith Plastering and D.H. Smith Co. until his retirement in 2011.

Dennis joined the United States Marine Corps in 1965, serving in Vietnam until honorably discharged in 1969. Dennis considered his military service one of the great achievements of his life.

In 1974, he married Laura Guerrero and welcomed his first daughter, Lindsay M. Holcomb, two years later. In 1979, his second daughter, LeAnne J. Smith, was born. The couple moved to Livermore, CA in 1980 and built their dream home in 1988 to raise their family.

Dennis was the quintessential "girl dad." He was greeted daily by his daughter's joyful squeals when he arrived home from work. He infused his devotion to family, a strong work ethic, and loyalty in his girls. He was their hero and confidant, their protector and guide.

In 2004, Dennis and Laura moved to Lincoln, CA, where they looked forward to retiring in the growing community at Del Webb Sun City. The couple spent their time developing a close friend circle and welcomed their granddaughter, Emma J. Holcomb, in 2007.

Dennis was a devoted nature-lover, spending his free time hunting, fishing, and golfing with his father, brother, nephews, and friends. No one caught a bigger fish than Dennis. He loved it when someone asked for advice about a fishing lure or new hunting gadget. He traveled in pursuit of these hobbies, but his favorite trips were to Alaska, a place he loved for its pristine natural surroundings.

Dennis' humor was unrivaled. He was a character, a man in pursuit of a laugh. He loved socializing with friends, a good glass of red wine, and being first in line at the buffet table.

Dennis is survived by his children, Lindsay M. (Mike) Holcomb and LeAnne J. Smith; his granddaughter, Emma J. Holcomb; his siblings, Daniel H. (Jean) Smith II, Marie (George) Medeiros, Fred (Carol) Smith, Kenneth (Julie) Trout, Timothy (Linda) Smith, Michelle (Manuel) Cruz, and Douglas (Mary) Arkin; his extended family Joseph Guerrero, Mike (Brenda) Guerrero, Nancee (Tom Hodgens) Consos, Denise (Dave) Dalton; and 23 nieces and nephews.

Burial service will be held on Thursday, September 26 at 11 am at Oak Hill Funeral Home & Memorial Park in San Jose, CA, with a celebration of life directly following at Spin-A-Yarn Steakhouse in Fremont, CA.
