Dennis's obituary
Dennis Marion Laube, a man known for his stoic demeanor, witty jokes, and thought-provoking questions, passed away in New Smyrna Beach, Florida on July 31, 2023, due to heart failure from Wild-type ATTR Amyloidosis (ATTRwt). Born on March 24, 1948, in Wisconsin to Marion Henry Laube and Mildred Madeline Stuessy, Dennis was a beacon of warmth, generosity, and unwavering support to all who knew him.
Dennis is survived by his loving wife of over 35 years, Lynn Eleanor Dorbert-Laube, with whom he shared countless adventures and cherished moments. Their family includes three sons: Ryan Lee Billings, who shares his life with Kim Lefler; Dennis "Michael" Laube, who is married to Tamar (Piombino) Laube, and expecting their first child; and Benjamin Alexander Laube, who shares his life with Santiago Ramirez. Dennis was a doting grandfather to Hudson, Lilly, and Ashlynn, each of whom brought immeasurable joy to his life.
Dennis received his undergraduate degree from University of Wisconsin - White Water, followed by his graduate degree at Syracuse in Mathematics. Dennis moved to Maryland where he taught high school Math, met Lynn, the love of his life, and acquired a taste for crab. Lynn and Dennis moved to Apopka, Florida and raised their three Eagle Scouts and then settled in New Smyrna Beach. Dennis worked over 40 years in Information Technology as a Data Warehousing Modeler and Architect in the communications, entertainment and defense industries.
Dennis had a passion for photography and had a unique ability to capture moments of pure joy and laughter. His love for travel was reflected in his pictures, each frame a testament to a life lived fully. Dennis also had a fondness for simple pleasures like reading a good book on the beach, taking family walks along the shore, and collecting T-shirts from every place he visited.
In his final act of selflessness, Dennis chose to donate his body to science. His personal journey with ATTRwt deepened his appreciation for the work of the Amyloidosis Research Consortium (ARC), a nonprofit organization committed to advancing research into amyloid diseases.
In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests donations be made to the Amyloidosis Research Consortium or Halifax Health - Hospice, in Dennis's name, echoing his hope for advancements in amyloid diseases research and treatment.
Dennis will be remembered for his resilience, his sharp wit, and his ability to inspire thoughtful and insightful conversations. His loss will be deeply felt by all who had the privilege to know him.
In celebration of Dennis's vibrant life and enduring impact, a beach celebration of life will be held in New Smyrna Beach in the coming weeks. Details of this event will be shared in due course, offering a time for all to reflect on the cherished memories of Dennis' well-lived life.
