Dennis's obituary

Dennis Jagt returned to his Heavenly Father just after noon on the 14th of June. Dennis was 83 years of age. Dennis was an accomplished and talented man who grew up in Patterson New Jersey. He graduated from Eastside High School and went on from there to earn a Mechanical Engineering degree from Newark College of Engineering in 1957. That same year, he married Alida Muller and began an adventure that lasted the remainder of his life. He spent his professional career at Public Service Electric and Gas Company in New Jersey where he worked as an engineer and manager for 32 years. He was part of a team responsible for safe design and operation of nuclear power plants in southern New Jersey. Dennis and Alida settled in East Brunswick NJ where they raised four children. Memorable events included summer vacations at the Jersey shore where Dennis acquired his love of soaking up the sunshine. During this time, weekend trips to the Poconos began which evolved to the purchase of a lot in Lake Naomi and the design and construction of the Jagt summer home. Dennis was lead designer for the home and accomplished much of the finishing work himself. This home provided several decades of wonderful family memories and stands as a legacy to his creativity and skilled handiwork. Dennis and Alida went on to reside in Wenonah NJ, Blue Mountain Beach FL, Bluffton SC, and Sykesville MD. He found his greatest sense of pride and accomplishment in his family. He and Alida enjoyed 62 years of marriage, and Dennis thrived as a husband, father, and grandfather. He lost his daughter Carole in 1998, leaving a void that lingered but he was sustained by support of family, friends, and the great joy and pride he had watching the development and accomplishments of his grand children. He is survived by his wife Alida, children Rich (Anita), Dave (Susan), Rob (Dee), Son-In-Law Pete (Gretchen), and grandchildren Kristin, Jonathon, John, Ben, Nick, Caroline, Daniel, and Skyler. Over his latter years, Dennis was stricken with Alzheimer’s disease; Dennis did his very best to cope and manage. He often sought out a spot to sit in the sunshine as a welcome refuge from the frustrations of living with Alzheimer’s. While the loss is great, the family is comforted in knowing that his struggles with Alzheimer's are over. In lieu of flowers, the family appreciates donations (tribute gift) to the Alzheimer’s Association in honor of Dennis.
