It is with the heaviest of hearts we share that Denise M. Achatz, age 68, passed away Saturday, April 11th, 2026 peacefully at the hospital in Royal Oak, Michigan, in the company of her children.

Denise was born July 12, 1957 in St. Clair to the late Leslie and Bernice Schroeder.

She graduated from Marine City High School in 1975 and was formerly employed by East China School District.

She loved spending time outdoors, gardening, seeing live music, painting, playing games, and enjoying the summer sun. Her ability to find joy in anything made her the ideal travel partner, and she often enjoyed taking trips with her daughter, girls trips with her friends, and many camping ventures with family.

She was preceded in death by her parents, step-mother Beatrice Teltow Schroeder, and beloved siblings Janice Koryba, Diane Lince, and Ronald Schroeder.

Denise will forever be a beloved mother to her daughter, Katelyn Achatz, and her son, John Achatz. She is survived by them as well as her sister, Sharon Bickley, brother, Leslie Schroeder, son-in-law, Joe Sausser, step-siblings, many nieces and nephews, her beloved cat, and life-long friends.

She will be dearly missed by her family and many friends, and remembered for her kindness, sense of humor, and proficiency at being the life of the party. No amount of words written here can truly express the impact she had on so many that were lucky enough to have known her.

A celebration of life will be held June 6th, 2026 in Marine City at the RiverPlace Art Pavilion. Additional details will be provided by the family.
