Denali's obituary
Denali Smith, a vibrant and promising young soul, passed away on July 24, 2024, at 7:32 a.m., just a day shy of his 21st birthday, at Wellington Regional Hospital. Born on July 25, 2003, at the same hospital to Latoya Mills and Vivian Smith, Denali’s life was a testament to his boundless energy, indomitable spirit, and unwavering dedication.
Denali exhibited a unique blend of curiosity and enthusiasm from his earliest years. He began his education at Wellington Elementary, where he embraced learning with a fever that only grew as he transitioned to Maritime Elementary, driven by a burgeoning interest in Marine Science. His academic journey continued at Wellington Landings Middle School and Wellington High School, where his passion for football became a defining part of his identity. Denali received a football scholarship to Graceland University in Lamoni Iowa where he studied pyschology with plans to later move on to become an educator and motivational speaker.
Denali’s football career took root at just five years old with the WCFL, and his talent and leadership quickly became apparent. As the Wellington High School football team captain for three consecutive years, Denali earned accolades for his improvement and his teammates’ respect. His athletic prowess extended beyond football; he was also a dedicated lacrosse player with the Wolf Pack Lacrosse Club and Wellington High, where he captained the team and received the Coach’s Award. Additionally, he explored rugby and engaged in various other sports and activities, reflecting his fearless spirit and diverse interests.
His enthusiasm for other pursuits matched Denali’s love for football. An accomplished artist and painter, he found joy in archery and nurturing his plants. His creativity and resilience shone through in his early venture into making YouTube videos, which blossomed into a significant presence on YouTube, TikTok, and Instagram. His journey from a determined individual striving for a healthier lifestyle to a widely recognized influencer is a testament to his commitment and impact.
Denali’s legacy is one of leadership, inspiration, and unwavering positivity. His drive and genuine spirit touched the lives of many, leaving behind a beacon of hope and motivation for those who knew him.
Denali is survived by his devoted mother, Latoya Mills; his father, Vivian Smith; his brothers, Deandre, Destin and Andre; and his sisters, Deandra, Destiny, and Chrystal. He is also remembered fondly by his grandmother, Janett; his aunts Shawna, Lorna, Pat, Marvina, Kebra, Sharon, Maxine, Nicolette, Claudette and Daynor; and his uncles, Ian, Lejahni, Craig, Jason and Ricky and his dozens of cousins.
Denali will be deeply missed, but his legacy will continue to inspire and uplift those who have had the privilege of knowing him for years to come.
