DeEtta (Meirose) Saunders, 82, of Itasca, Texas, formerly of Norfolk, New York, passed away peacefully on October 30, 2025, in Hillsboro, Texas. She was born on February 1, 1943, in Little Rock, Arkansas, to Henry and Sarah Meirose.
DeEtta’s life was a testament to faith, perseverance, and joy. Known for her bright smile and warm humor, she had an extraordinary gift for lifting the spirits of everyone around her. If you were having a bad day, a conversation with DeEtta could always make it better.
A woman of deep faith, DeEtta lived by her favorite scriptures—Mark 10:27, Philippians 4:13, and Jeremiah 29:11—believing wholeheartedly that with God, all things were possible. Alongside her beloved husband Harry Saunders, she was active in the church community for many years. The couple traveled to numerous congregations across the country. They became devoted members New Life Christian Church in Akwesasne, NY. Their shared dedication to service touched countless lives.
DeEtta loved life and adventure. An avid square dancer, she and Harry proudly competed in 47 states, spreading joy wherever they went. Never afraid of a challenge, she earned her accounting degree at the age of 60 from the State University of New York at Canton (SUNY Canton)—a remarkable accomplishment that reflected her determination and lifelong love of learning.
DeEtta was preceded in death by her husband Harry Saunders, her parents Henry and Sarah Meirose, and her siblings John Harvey Meirose and Lavonne Mitchell.
She is survived by her nieces and nephews Starlena Meirose, Keith (Sondra) Meirose, James Meirose, Tony (Vicky) Mitchell, and Connie (Bob) Eisenberg; great-nieces and nephews Cherees (Dusty) Ruckman, Sarah Smith, DeAnne Meirose, Taylor (Truett) House, James “Jake” Meirose, Codey Whitt, Noah Meirose, Vanessa (Waachiim) Spirit Wolf, Joel (Marta) Eisenberg, and Paula (Casey Johnson) Eisenberg; and many extended family members and friends who will forever cherish her memory.
DeEtta’s life was guided by love and laughter, her faith unwavering, and her heart open to all. She leaves behind a legacy of kindness and light that will continue to inspire everyone who knew her.
