Dear Overby family,
I’m so sorry to hear about the passing of Decator. So happy you all had such a wonderful dad/ husband. We are thinking of you all and praying for peace and comfort during this difficult time.

Long-distanced though we may have been with our dear friends, Dee and Betty, we enjoyed our visits with them each time. There was no one quite like Dee with his quirky sense of humor and love of off-the-wall pranks (best college-friend, Mike recalls many of those pranks that he and Dee perpetrated at Wilmington). Mike and Sally Were married the same summer as did their good friends; the friendship continued through Christmas correspondence even to this day. Of course we regret the time we didn't spend together now. It is a comfort to know that Dee, as we knew him, continued to live a "large" life until the end- the way he would have chosen- to "go out". Sending love to all the family.

So very many memories, I don’t know where to begin. It has been said that throughout one’s life, we only develop a few lifelong friends. I know that’s true for me. Dee was at the top of my list, my best friend ever. He came into my life when we were in the fourth grade in Ms Marcus‘s class. And, for the next five or so years, we were inseparable. Dee was the most gifted natural athlete I have ever known. Riding our bikes up and down Bishop Hill Road, he left me in the dust. During football practice, I overheard Coach Siler comment that if it was up to him he would throw the ball to Dee every time because the he ran precise routes and always caught the ball. He came to my sons wedding. He visited me in Alaska and practically everywhere else I lived. He always opened his home for me even on short notice. Dee loved Betty. He loved his family. And, he loved life. I miss my friend.

I first met Dee in the fall of 2018 at the Monroe B & G Club. We instantly became friends and enjoyed playing pickleball together and as opponents. Dee was always a gentleman and a great example to everyone around him. I love Dee Overby and will miss him as a friend and fellow pickleballer!

Hey, Carey. I heard the news about your dad. I am so very sorry for your loss. I remember talking to your dad on a middle school field trip to North Georgia. I also remember playing tennis with Atsuto Miyata while your dad practiced on the next court over. I hope you are well. Sending love. Neil Austin
