Debra's obituary
Debra Sue Carper-Glenn, known affectionately as Debbie, passed away on May 27, 2020, at the age of 68 in Nipomo, CA. Born on July 5, 1951, in Santa Maria, CA, Debbie was the loving daughter of Alvin and Eva Lou Carper. She was preceded in death by her parents.
Debbie had a vibrant personality and a smile that could light up any room. She took great pride in her Native American heritage and cherished her family dearly. Debbie was a devoted mother to her children, Jeff Simmons and Dena Simmons, and two grandchildren, Dustin Carper and Hope Goodall.
She also leaves behind her sister, Diane Carper, and brother, Clifton Carper. Debbie was also blessed with a large extended family of cousins whom she loved dearly.
After graduating from Arroyo Grande High School, Debbie pursued a career as a chef. However, she ultimately found fulfillment working at Dana School in Nipomo as a crossing guard, lunchroom supervisor, and recess supervisor. Her dedication and hard work made her well-known and respected in the close-knit community of Nipomo, CA.
In her free time, Debbie enjoyed various hobbies. She had a passion for rock hunting, attending pow-wows, and researching her family's history and Native American roots. These activities brought her great joy and allowed her to connect with her heritage.
Debbie's faith was an important part of her life, and she found solace and community at the First Southern Baptist Church of Nipomo.
Debbie Sue Carper-Glenn will be deeply missed by all who had the pleasure of knowing her. Her infectious smile, love for her family, and dedication to her community will be remembered fondly. Her legacy will live on through her children, siblings, cousins, and all those whose lives she touched. May she rest in peace.
