Deborah's obituary

In Loving Memory of Deborah Ann Vining

March 3, 1963 – May 1, 2025

With deep love and sorrow, we announce the passing of our beloved sister, Deborah Ann Vining, who left us on May 1, 2025, at the age of 62. She was born in Bremerhaven, Germany, lived her childhood in the Rio Grande Valley, and her adult life in Houston, Texas.

Deborah spent nearly 30 years as an educator in Houston ISD, retiring in August 2023. More than a teacher, she was a mentor, an inspiration, and a guiding force for her students. She saw them not just as pupils, but as her children, pouring her heart into their growth and success. As the debate coordinator for East Early College High School (EECHS), she nurtured young minds, helping them find their voices with wisdom and laughter.

Deborah’s love for learning and teaching extended far beyond the classroom. She was deeply passionate about ancient world history, always eager to explore the past through reading. She had an eclectic taste in music and enjoyed immersing herself in digital games, embracing strategy and entertainment. A science fiction enthusiast, she was an avid fan of Star Trek and Game of Thrones, reveling in the grandeur of imagined worlds.

Beyond her intellect, Deborah had a quick wit, a sharp sense of humor, and an unshakably cheerful spirit. Whether with family, friends, colleagues, or students, she could always be counted on for a sarcastic remark that made you laugh and think at the same time. She had a knack for bringing levity to any situation, making even the most serious conversations a little brighter.

Her creativity shone in her craftwork, particularly her love for crochet. She poured warmth into every blanket and creation she made, gifting pieces of herself to those she cherished.

Deborah’s warmth, humor, and unwavering dedication left an unforgettable mark on her family, friends, colleagues, and students. Her loving siblings survive her: Patricia M. Porter, Denise M. Omstead, Robert Vining, Jr., and Angelique Capanelli LeMere, along with numerous extended family members. She also adored her beloved cats, Tiberius (Ty) and Spock, who have found a loving home with her former student, Antuan Cano, and his wife, Brittany.

The family will hold a Celebration of Life memorial on Saturday, June 28th at Holy Family Episcopal Church, located at 3719 Navigation Blvd., Houston, Texas 77003. Guests will be welcomed at 4:00 pm, and the service will take place from 4:30 to 5:30 pm. Flowers may be sent to the church after 10:00 am on June 28th or brought to the service. For those who prefer to honor Deborah’s legacy in another way, donations can be made to the Houston Urban Debate League (HUDL) in her memory, an organization close to her heart.

Deborah lived with passion, intellect, humor, and kindness, leaving a lasting impact on everyone fortunate enough to know her. Though she may be gone, her spirit and influence will endure in the lives she touched. She will be profoundly missed but never forgotten.
