Deborah "Debbie" Haley Stavitsky (Hirsch)

Debbie passed away at the UCLA West Valley Medical Center in West Hills, California, on February 5, 2025, the world lost a cherished luminary in the vibrant tapestry of life—Deborah "Debbie" Haley Stavitsky. Born on February 12, 1931, in Brooklyn, New York, Debbie graced the world with her melodious voice, theatrical talents, and boundless generosity, leaving an indelible mark on all who knew her. 

Debbie embarked upon her extraordinary journey when, even as a precocious child, she charmed audiences with her singing at a Goldman's Resort Hotel, in New Jersey. Her talents were such that the family was welcomed as honored guests, on the condition that young Debbie would continue to perform. She then went on to perform on radio, and soon graduated to a new medium called television. While still in her early teens, she sang with Gordon MacRae and Nat King Cole at the famous Mosque Theater. Her stellar career commenced in earnest with her appearances on the renowned 'Children’s Hour', where she was affectionately casted as one of the "Little Greats" for six magical years. 

Debbie graduated in 1948 from South Side High School in Newark, New Jersey. 

Her career crescendo, was with her memorable triumphant win on the Arthur Godfrey show, where her exceptional talent earned her the rare honor of multiple appearances, a testament to Arthur Godfrey's faith in her potential. Debbie's golden voice resonated on platforms such as "Stop the Music", Name That Tune, Big Payoff, The Bob Kennedy show (Debbie was a Co-Host and Singer), to name some of her accomplishments.

Her success in the musical industry continued on with extremely successful recordings like "My Heart Knows Your Heart By Heart," "The Clock", "I Can't Stop Crying", "Just Another Waltz with You" that enthralled countless admirers. Her grace and poise led her to a successful modeling and spokesperson career with esteemed brands such as Fitch and White Rain. Additionally, Debbie's captivating charm earned her the title of "Miss Democracy" at the Essex House in New Jersey.

Debbie was featured on numerous commercials and in print ads in the late 1940's and into the 1950's with Fitch, White Rain, Dentyne and Canada Dry.

Yet, at the pinnacle of her fame, Debbie made the poignant decision to embrace the joys of motherhood, choosing to nurture her three beloved children, Rachel, Douglas, and Jason, alongside her treasured late husband Edward Stavitsky. Her legacy of love extends to her grandchildren: Eric, Lauren, Jessica, Elijah, Isaiah, Katalia, Jordan, Caleb, and her great-grandchildren: Haylee, Brianna, Cole, Elijah Jr., Reign, and Alexander. They remain as living testaments to her remarkable life, enriched by her selfless, intelligent, and nurturing spirit.

Her love of acting craft lead her to not give up even while raising her youngest Jason. She also was a major contributor with the Springfield Community Players (Springfield, New Jersey) and was always cast in the starring roles in a number of Off Broadway Hits for many years, including Oklahoma, The Little Foxes, 42nd Street, Dear Ruth and many more. 

After relocating to the West Coast, Debbie worked as a special vocal trainer and talent coach for legendary music producer Robert "Bumps" Blackwell (who spearheaded and oversaw, such greats as Little Richard & was a mentor to artists such as Ray Charles, Quincy Jones, just to name a few.). Then she took some time away from her career to focus on her family, which has always been her first priority. After the death of her husband, Debbie discovered other avenues to pursue her love of acting. She performed in numerous plays/musicals at the Pierce College Theatre Department, where she appeared in various plays/musicals such as "My Fair Lady", "Charlotte's Web", "James and the Giant Peach", "Tomahawk",  all just to name a few. Additionally, she was in numerous improvisational groups such as "The Spring Chickens". 

Debbie possessed an insatiable curiosity and zest for life that her delve into interests such as singing, acting in improv and plays, reading, exercising, and joy in the company of her cherished family. Her passion for jewelry  and fashion led her into rewarding roles in jewelry & fashion companies, intertwining professional fulfillment with personal interest.

With a heart characterized by generosity, kindness, and humor, Debbie was a beacon of ambition, consideration, and loyalty. Her friendly, classy demeanor endeared her to numerous admirers and friends. She leaves behind a legacy of love, memories, and song that will reverberate within those she touched forever.

In her memory, a private ceremony will be held on March 2, 2025, where she will rest beside her beloved Edward Stavitsky . Debbie's family invites you to share memories of how she sparked joy in your lives and express condolences, cherishing her contributions to the vast theatre of life.

Debbie's radiant life may have taken its final bow, but the echoes of her laughter, the brilliance of her smile, and the warmth of her embrace endure, a celestial melody in the hearts of all who walked in her grace. She will be deeply missed by her loving children, grandchildren, great grandchildren and all who had the privilege of knowing her. Her legacy of love, joy, and elegance will forever remain in our hearts.

One of Debbie's favorite quotes (not certain whether she was the producer of this quote or not...nonetheless) was “What we do for ourselves dies with us. What we do for others is and remains immortal.”
