Deborah's obituary
It is with a heavy heart that we say goodbye to Deborah "Debby" Halstead, who passed away on May 25, 2021, in Ladson, South Carolina after a long illness. Her loving daughter, Judith, was present to comfort her in her final hour. Known affectionately to many as Debby or Deb, she was a powerful presence in the lives of those she knew and loved, and she will be dearly missed.
Born on March 24, 1952, in Mineola, New York, Deborah was a woman of remarkable complexity and character. Her personality, best described as outspoken, dramatic, and witty, endeared her to many. Deborah enjoyed working on various crafts, especially the refurbishment of "abandoned" Barbie dolls, which when completed, were given to close family and friends.
She was a woman known for her strength, compassion, perseverance and resilience - qualities she consistently imparted to those around her as invaluable life lessons. Above all, her greatest accomplishments were her children, to whom she dedicated her life with unconditional love and commitment.
Deborah leaves behind a loving family, deeply saddened by her passing, yet comforted by the rich tapestry of memories she has given them. Survived by her sons, Rickey Simons and Daniel Simons, her daughter, Judith Gorsky, her brother, Daniel Halstead, and her cherished grandchildren, Brin, Daisy, Paul, and Ryan Gorsky, Deborah's legacy will continue to live on. Through them, her love, wisdom, and spirit will continue to touch lives.
She was predeceased by her mother, Madelyn "Lyn" Hickey, and her step-father, Joseph "Joe" Hickey. The love and lessons she received from them were passed down through her to her family, and they too will continue to live on through her descendants.
Deborah lived a vibrant life filled with dramatic moments, witticisms, and a remarkable resilience that will continue to inspire those who were fortunate enough to know her. She will be remembered not just for her outspoken nature but most importantly for her loving heart and nurturing spirit. May she rest in peace.
