Debbie's obituary
Debra “Debbie” Sue Hawman, born on February 8, 1962, passed away peacefully in her family’s home on October 31, 2025, at the age of 63, after a long battle with illness. She was surrounded by her children, grandchildren, siblings, and dearest friends during her final days.
Debbie was born in Silver City, New Mexico, where her family owned Grimes Aviation at the Grant County Airport for many years. Her father, Jimmie “Tuck” Grimes, was a pilot, and her mother, Helen Grimes, managed the office—instilling in Debbie a lifelong appreciation for aviation and adventure.
At the young age of 16, Debbie welcomed her first child, Danny, before meeting and marrying Timothy Hawman, with whom she had three daughters: Mindi, Ashley, and DeAnna.
Throughout her life, Debbie was devoted to her family and to serving others. Whether through deep friendships or simple acts of kindness to strangers, she found joy in making others’ days brighter. Her greatest happiness came from her children and grandchildren, who were the center of her world.
For many years, Debbie was a stay-at-home mother, later working in banking and administration in the small community of Joseph City, Arizona. She was known for her creativity and could make just about anything with her hands. She loved sewing, quilting, crafting, and scrapbooking, often creating gifts and decorations that reflected her love and care. Christmas was her favorite holiday, and she spent countless hours decorating and crafting new holiday décor to bring joy to those around her.
Those who knew Debbie will remember her for her warmth, kindness, humor, and love of shopping. She had a gift for making people laugh, whether through her silly songs or her spontaneous sense of fun.
Debbie is survived by her children Danny (Amber) Hawman, Mindi (Ricky Gunderson) Hawman, Ashley (Tiffiny) Hawman, and DeAnna (Josh) Shurtleff; her grandchildren Alora, Taleah, Braden, Liana, Logan, Aella, and Freyja; and her siblings Karen, Jimmie, Wesley, and Terry.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Tuck and Helen Grimes, and her sister, Jeannette.
A memorial service will be held on Saturday, November 15, 2025, at 12:00 PM at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, 3755 N Swan St., Silver City, NM 88061. All who knew and loved her are welcome to attend.
She will be deeply missed, and her memory will forever remain close to our hearts.
