Deb was one of the first faculty members I met during info sessions regarding the MLIS program at St. Kate's, and was also at my orientation. Her vibrancy and enthusiasm for LIS was infectious, always encouraging us to dig deeper in our studies and passions. I can't recall how many times she attended student meetings and events. Deb will be missed, but I know the legacy she left at St. Kate's will continue to impact future students.
Deb was a weaver and a storyteller, always with a twinkle in her eye and a hand outreached to help. She created a unique fabric for MLIS, weaving together her love of the program and the students, her knowledge of the program's history, her wide-ranging connections in the professional community, and her strong commitment to social justice. When I became program director in 2019, she was an essential ally. MLIS will miss her very much. In my memory, she will always stand front and center with a ready smile and an open heart.
It's hard to put into words the impact that Deb has had in the library community. She was an incredible mentor, teacher, and colleague. She both supported me when I had questions or struggles and challenged and pushed me when I needed to step up and do better. She was also so much fun! Always a good partner for beer and conversation and we frequently went to local literary events together. I will miss Deb so much and I can say for certain that Deb's legacy will be very long-lasting.
