For those that were not able to make it to the memorial, we recorded the memorial so everyone had the chance to view it. We apologize for the wind and the angle, it was on a dock over the water and, short of using a boat, there was no way to show the full lineup of individuals there.https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IG2skjUIpC8

Deanna was the daughter of Margery “Sue” who was married to my mother’s first cousin Larry. I first met Deanna when she was a preschooler. She was a cutie, dark hair and dark eyes and very vivacious child. She was so excited to then have a Dad when her Mom & Larry married. She lived in Independence, Iowa & attended local schools, until about 1977 when her stepdad & little brother died in a house fire. Her mom obtained more education & they lived in Waterloo, Ia. After another move I lost contact with the family until Facebook days. I am pleased to know Deanna was well liked, loved and respected among her friends. As her SCA friends, I want you to know she also did have a family back home who never forgot and always loved Deanna Lawrence, though it may have looked differently.

This was the first time I met Deanna, or as I came to know and love her, Lady Brilliana. It was at an SCA event called The Rose Rises- I had just truly begun my foray into the Bardic arts (performance arts, for those not in the SCA) and a couple of challenges caught my attention- one of which was sponsored by her. All day, I worked to create a new piece for that evening's challenge, while fighting rapier and shooting arrows, etc. ...her challenge was my priority. The time came and I was introduced to the patron of the challenge, a sweet woman with kind eyes who, although shy, wrangled us bards and gave us a welcoming and safe place to ply our craft. When the time came to judge, my piece turned out to be the crowd favorite, and she gifted me with two items, which I still have and treasure: a metal and glass lantern, and a wooden object d'art with roses cut out of the middle. She gave me some of the biggest hugs I had gotten in the SCA to that date and made me feel like a million bucks. But that wasn't enough... Brilliana later came and found me at my camp, apologizing profusely because the lantern she had given me was apparently incomplete; she presented me with a beautiful twisted S hook that she had made by the blacksmith on site because apparently the one she had to go with it had been lost. That type of caring thoughtfulness and that ability to make people around her feel absolutely appreciated and loved for who they were was what set Deanna apart from most everyone I know. She had a kindness an gentleness in her that is a rare treasure, and one that I will miss dearly for the rest of this lifetime.

I want to thank everyone who donated to the go-fund-me to help pay for Deanna's cremation. Thanks to you, we were able to raise enough. It means a lot to me to know so many loved her, and, if Dee were here, I know she would've cried happy tears to know so many cared so much.
Thank you again, from the bottom of my heart.
