Dean Patrick May, 72, of Olympia, Washington, passed away on July 23, 2024. Born in Spokane and raised in Longview, Washington, Dean led a life characterized by professional success, passionate pursuits, and a wonderful sense of humor.
After attending San Jose State University, Dean enjoyed a successful 33-year career at Boeing before retiring. However, it was on the golf course where Dean truly shined. His skill and dedication to the sport led him to compete in the 1973 US Open and on the Asian tour, achievements that remained points of pride throughout his life.
Golf wasn't just a sport for Dean; it was a way to connect with others, and he formed many lasting friendships through his love for the game. And, it was golf that brought him together with his wife, Chris. The couple shared a passion for the game and for each other, building a life together filled with love and outdoor adventures, including hiking, biking and many road trips.
Dean also enjoyed photography, delighting in capturing moments through his lens and sharing his photos with family and friends. His creativity flourished as he embraced new technologies, particularly enjoying the use of his drone for photo and video projects.
Known for his great sense of humor, Dean had an extensive repertoire of silly jokes that never failed to bring smiles to those around him. His kindness and generosity were evident in his readiness to step in and help others whenever needed, a quality that endeared him to many.
One of Dean's greatest joys in life was raising his son, Brett. The bond they shared was a source of immense pride and happiness for Dean.
For years, Dean fought a silent battle against depression. He faced this illness with courage and perseverance, striving to overcome its challenges. Despite his valiant efforts, Dean ultimately lost that battle. His struggle serves as a reminder of the seriousness of mental health issues and the importance of supporting those who face them.
Dean is survived by his beloved wife Christine May, son Brett May, stepson Craig Gorder, brothers David and Michael May, and cherished granddaughters Lilley and Brielle.
In keeping with Dean's wishes, there will be no formal memorial service. .
