Deacon's obituary

Deacon Jacob Paige

On Tuesday, April 27, 2021, Deacon Jacob Paige departed this life and went home to be with

the Lord.  Deacon Jacob Paige was born on May 21, 1943 to the late Reverend

Augustus and Mrs. Evelyn Paige in Rex, North Carolina.  The eighth of 17 children and

blessed to have a twin,  Deacon Paige was heavily influenced by his parents’ strong

moral and Christian beliefs.  He attended the St. Paul’s school system and, after

graduation relocated to New York City in 1961.  Deacon Paige started his  career at the

Veteran’s Administration Hospital in Montrose, New York. He was later employed by the

Guild Group in Harrison, New York, and retired in 2005.

Deacon Paige was ordained as a Deacon at the Mt. Lebanon Baptist Church in 1974

and has served with a loyal heart and unselfish spirit. He served as Chairman of the

Deacon’s Ministry for 30 years and was bestowed with the honor of Chairman Emeritus.

He served as a Sunday School Teacher; a New Member’s Teacher;  a member of the

Willing Worker’s Ministry; and a member of the Men’s Fellowship, where we worked

diligently as a mentor to teenage boys.

Deacon Paige wanted to learn more about being a great Deacon so he joined the

Deacon’s Union in 1974; an organization where Deacons from Westchester County

churches came together in unity.  He served as President for six years.  Deacon Paige

was also a member of the Churches for Social Action, a collaboration of churches to

help those who are in need.  He also served as a member of the Westchester County of

Churches,  where he has served as Vice President for many years.

Family was very important to him, as he loved Family Reunions;  and visiting family in North Carolina and Long Island.

Deacon Paige has been very active in the community and his church for many years

and was known throughout the Metropolitan and Tri-State Area.  With a belief that God’s

work extends into the community, Deacon Paige’s service has been a fine model.

Deacon Paige was a coach for Peekskill Lapolla Little League for over 25 years.  He served

on the Peekskill Housing Authority Board from 1972 to 1976.  He was appointed to the

Human Relations Board at Peekskill City Hall by the former Mayor and former Governor,

George E. Pataki, where he served from 1981 to 1991.  Deacon Paige served as

Chairman of the Peekskill Community Action Program Board of Directors from 1996 to

2006.
