Dayle's obituary
In Loving Memory of Dayle Durand Johnson
Sunrise Sunset
August 9, 1950 September 16, 2025
Dayle Durand Johnson, 75, of Covington, GA , went home to be with the Lord on September 16th, 2025.
Dayle was born August 9th, 1950, in Springfield, Massachusetts, to the union of the late Alvin and Matilda Johnson. He was the youngest sibling of the children born to this union.
His dedicated career spanned 30 years at General Motors Assembly Plant, Doraville, GA, until his retirement in 2007. Before moving to Georgia, he became a father for the first time and welcomed his daughter, Nicole Burton, into the world. He moved to Georgia, where he met his beloved wife and remained happily married for 40 years. During this time, they welcomed his second daughter, Porscha Johnson, into the world.
Dayle had a remarkable gift for music - he could hear the first few seconds of a song and instantly knew the artist and all of the lyrics. He was passionate about exploring different worldly cuisines. Family gatherings were made special by his culinary talents on his Big Green Egg, with everyone eagerly anticipating his famous smoked turkey for Thanksgiving. He was an avid enthusiast of car shows and loved attending them with his family. He enjoyed watching sports, especially the WNBA and Big Three games.
Dayle was deeply committed to his faith and community. He was a member of iThrive Christian Church, where he participated in the mentoring program for young men. He also enjoyed ministering and empowering youth at the Youth Detention Center in Macon, Georgia. In recent years, he attended New Birth Missionary Baptist Church. When he was no longer physically able to attend services, he would consistently watch services from the comfort of his home, giving all praise to God throughout his health journey.
Traveling brought Dayle great joy, and some of his fondest memories were attending jazz concerts in Montreal, Aruba, and Jamaica. A recent highlight was a surprise Father's Day trip to Nashville with his daughter, Porscha, which created precious memories.
He leaves to cherish his memory his beloved wife of 40 years, Lucia Johnson; daughters Nicole Burton and Porscha Johnson; brother Alvin Johnson Jr.; nieces Jacye Johnson and Michelle Hodge; three grandsons, Dwight, Justin, and Jalen; godbrother Ted Childs Jr, and a host of other cousins, relatives, and friends. He was predeceased by his parents, Alvin and Matilda Johnson, and brother Brent Johnson.
Dayle was deeply loved by his family and friends and well respected in the community. While this is the end of Dayle’s physical life, it is the beginning of his eternal and spiritual life with the Lord.
No services will be held at Dayle's request.
Our family is grateful to know that Dayle is at peace with God. The family wishes to thank everyone for their thoughts, prayers, and unyielding support during this difficult time.
