Dawn's obituary
Dawn Linda Marquart (Root), age 68, of Clarissa, Minnesota, passed away peacefully on July 12, 2025, in Long Prairie, Minnesota surrounded by loved ones.
Dawn was born on March 3, 1957, in Minneapolis, Minnesota. She was the daughter of Donald and Lenora Root ((Brandt). She grew up in Anoka and graduated from Anoka High School before continuing her education at Anoka Technical College. Throughout her life, Dawn dedicated herself to hard work and service, spending the majority of her career in customer service roles. Her commitment to providing for her family was unwavering and deeply rooted in love.
After retiring from the workforce, Dawn embraced a new chapter as a caregiver for her beloved grandchildren. She cherished every moment spent with them and found immense joy in being their nana. Her nurturing spirit extended beyond her immediate family—she welcomed others into her heart and home with warmth and generosity.
Dawn is survived by her devoted husband, John Marquart of Clarissa, MN; daughters Amy Olson (Kevin) of Long Prairie, MN and Heather Witt of Saint Cloud, MN; son John Moos (Kristin) of Champlin, MN; and bonus children Tara Hestand (Thomas) of Blaine, MN; Autumn Klabunde of Minneapolis, MN; and Meridyth Fitzsimmons (Doug) of Fantasy Hills, GA. She was a proud grandmother to Lilian and Lucas Olson of Long Prairie; Tannor Witt of Dubuque, IA; Brittney Moreau (Tyler) of Monticello, MN. Bonus grandchildren Victoria, Alexis, and Gladys Olson of Long Prairie, Jordan Salber (Abby) of Browerville, MN; Bradon Salber (Mikayla) of Golden Valley, MN; and Cloe Salber (Shane) of Browerville, MN. Great grandson on the way- coming this November (Brittney and Tyler); Bonus great grandchildren Wrenley and Dutton Salber (Jordan & Abby); Everly Salber (Bradon and Mikayla); and Oaklyn Berkness (Cloe and Shane).
She was preceded in death by her parents Donald and Lenora Root; son Donald Marquart; father-in-law John Marquart Sr.; father and mother-in-law Gene and Rae Provost; as well as many aunts and uncles. She also mourned the loss of lifelong family friends Mark Puhr and DeWayne "Red" Hulke.
Dawn’s free-spirited nature shone through in everything she did. Whether sitting outside enjoying the fresh air or spending time with her cherished fur babies as the self-proclaimed “cat lady,” she found happiness in life’s simple pleasures. Her greatest joy came from being surrounded by family and friends—her presence brought comfort and laughter to those around her.
May Dawn’s memory brings peace to all who knew her and continue to inspire love and resilience in those she leaves behind. A Celebration of Life will be held on July 26, 2025, at 02:00 PM at River of Life Church 410 9th Street NE, Long Prairie, MN 56347.
