Dawn's obituary

Dawn Marie (Lehmann) Harris, 59, of Ames, IA, went to be with the Lord on June 13th, 2025.

The visitation will be held on Friday, June 27, 2025, from 4:00 pm to 7:00 pm at Stonebrook Community Church, 3611 Eisenhower Ave, Ames, Iowa 50010. Funeral Services will be held on Saturday, June 28, 2025, at 10:30 am at Cornerstone Church, located at 3425 Turing St, Ames, IA 50010. A private family burial will be held at Pleasant Hill Grant Township Cemetery near Iowa Falls, Iowa.

Dawn was born on September 15, 1965, in Iowa Falls to Donald and Janice (McKenzie) Lehmann. She grew up on their family farm until she graduated from Iowa Falls High School in 1983. Dawn attended Ellsworth Community College before attending Iowa State University, where she graduated with a Bachelor of Science in Industrial Engineering in 1989. For most of her adult life, Dawn was a homeschooling mom, but in 2013, she rejoined the workforce and enjoyed working at AgLeader for 12 years.

Dawn met Gary Harris while attending Stonebrook Community Church’s student ministry at Iowa State. Dawn and Gary both graduated from ISU and were married on the same day, December 23, 1989 (a fact that they both loved to share with others, and one that Dawn discouraged others from attempting). Dawn and Gary settled in the Ames area after college, welcoming four children: Gabriel, Moriah, Tabitha, and Eli.

Dawn grew up attending church with her family and prayed to receive Christ as her savior on the farm at the age of 9. Her relationship with Jesus was the most important one to her, which was the foundation of her marriage with Gary. She strived to live a life of truth. Her main love language was acts of service, and she often used it to bless her family and friends. When not at work or church, Dawn loved to spend time reading to her 3 grandchildren, working in her garden, caring for her chickens, or starting various DIY projects. Dawn was the perfect example of “you can take the girl off the farm, but not the farm out of the girl”.

She is survived by her husband, Gary; her mother, Janice; four children, Gabriel (Stephanie) Harris, Moriah Harris, Tabitha (Logan) Cullison, and Eli Harris; three grandchildren, Piper and Stella Cullison, and Arthur Harris; her siblings, Brad (Lisa) Lehmann, and Anja (Chris) Whitehead, as well as many beloved nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her father, Donald Lehmann, and twin sons, Ian and Keaton.

To honor her life, we want to help save lives, so instead of flowers, we will be collecting donations to Obria Medical Clinic of Ames.
