Dawn's obituary

Dawn Michelle Brumfield, beloved wife, mother, grandmother, daughter, sister, and friend, passed away peacefully on August 14, 2025, at the age of 49.

Dawn was born in Sunnyside, Washington, on September 2, 1975, to Bruce and Marsha. She spent 16 years in Ritzville raising her children before meeting Ron and moving to Ellensburg with him, marrying Ron, and ultimately making Kittitas their home.

For 26 years, Dawn dedicated her career to serving others as an advocate for victims of domestic violence and sexual assault. Her work stretched across Adams, Grant, Kittitas, and Yakima counties, where she collaborated with law enforcement, mental health providers, LGBTQIA+ programs, and countless community organizations. To Dawn, her colleagues and the families she served were more than just acquaintances — they became lifelong friends. Her tireless commitment to creating safe, inclusive, and compassionate spaces touched countless lives.

Outside of work, Dawn’s heart belonged to her family and friends. She loved gathering people together — whether for holidays or just because — making sure everyone felt loved and connected. Outside of her work, Dawn’s greatest joy was her family. She is survived by her husband, Ronald; her children, Shae, Tyler, Dezarae, and Alicia; and her cherished grandchildren. She is also survived by her parents, Bruce and Marsha; her siblings, Anthony, Butch, Doug, Jeffery, Josh, Richard, Stanley, and Brittany; and many nieces, nephews, extended family, and friends.

Dawn loved making memories, whether through family get-togethers, spontaneous road trips, or long days spent by the water, creating unforgettable adventures. Her adventurous heart took her everywhere—from Cannon Beach and Ocean Shores to Coeur d’Alene, Leavenworth, Groveland, Columbia, and Sonora. She especially loved driving the West Coast and Highway 1, soaking in the beauty of the world around her.

As a mother, Dawn’s dedication was unwavering. She raised her children with resilience and joy, filling their lives with fairs, 4H, sports, scouting trips, and late-night phone calls. She was equally devoted as a grandmother, often watching her grandchildren so her children could rest, and cherishing every moment she spent with Allaura, Liam, Zaiven, Kinslee, Jameson, Greyson, and Paisleigh.

Those who knew Dawn will also remember her sharp wit and mischievous sense of humor. She loved playing pranks, often saying: “If I didn’t prank you, I don’t love you” — a motto her children proudly carry on. Her laughter and playful spirit brightened the lives of everyone she touched.

Even in her final months, Dawn embodied resilience. Facing the challenges of cancer, she reminded her loved ones: “We will figure it out, we always do.” True to her word, she made it her mission to create memories that will live on forever by embarking on road trips, adventures, finding joyful moments, and laughing with her husband, children, and grandchildren.

Dawn will be remembered for her fierce love, her compassion for others, her sense of humor, and her adventurous soul. Her legacy lives on in the family and friends she so deeply loved and in the countless lives she touched through her work and her laughter.

In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to the Gretchen Weller Foundation, which provided essential support during Dawn’s cancer journey, and to Aspen Victim Advocacy Services, the program to which Dawn devoted so much of her heart and time.

A Celebration of Life will be held on Saturday, September 6, 2025, from 12:00 p.m. to 3:00 p.m. at 381 Fields Rd., Ellensburg, WA. All who knew and loved Dawn are welcome to attend.
