Dave's obituary
It is with deep sorrow that we announce the passing of David "Dave" Zonsius, a man who played a significant role in the lives of those around him. David was born on May 12, 1954, and left us far too soon on October 21, 2022.
Dave leaves behind four daughters, Al Zonsius, Kristen Co, Rachel Zonsius, and Cori Justice and many more grandchildren. He was proud of his children as they each forged their own path into the world.
A proud alum of Arlington Heights, Illinois, David graduated high school in 1969. He was always eager to learn and dedicated to his trade. In 1978, his passion led him to start his own venture, Zonsius Tool and Fab. From there he had many factory jobs that eventually led him to Royal Oak Industries where his passion and work ethic moved him up the ladder quickly. Dave moved around the United States expanding factories for ROI and eventually landed in San Antonio. In 2013, Dave handed over the reigns and officially entered retirement after an exceptional career.
Outside of work, Dave had diverse interests. He never lost the passion for learning including how to build a house and a pool. He loved having conversations with friends about politics and life. His love for travel led him to picturesque places, with Costa Rica being his favorite vacation spot. He loved to share this special place with friends and family! He enjoyed supporting a dog rescue there and taking many deep sea fishing adventures.
David was a man who cared deeply about causes close to his heart. He was actively involved in Land of the Strays in Costa Rica, demonstrating his love for animals and commitment to their welfare. His kindness and generosity were traits that touched everyone who had the privilege to know him.
In the face of this great loss, David's enduring spirit and guiding principles remain to remind us of the man he was. He will be fondly remembered and sorely missed by all who knew him.
