David M. Zaran, age 64, of Riverview, Michigan, passed away peacefully at home on December 24, 2024, surrounded by his loved ones. Born on July 13, 1960, in Wyandotte, Michigan, he was the son of Nobi Suyama and Frank Zaran, both of whom preceded him in death. David is survived by his siblings, Darlene (Bob) Mathis, Pamela (Richard) Bertchinger, and Frank (Ann) Zaran, as well as his children, Rachel (Joe) Mendez, Alex (Gabriella) Zaran, Natalie (Brendan) Roberts, Kai Kai Zaran, and his two granddaughters Sofia and Cecelia Mendez. He was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Lori, who passed away in July 2023.
David was a man of adventure, laughter, and deep love for his family and friends. His vibrant personality, zest for life and "aloha spirit" earned him the nick name of 'Vacation Dave'. As a 15-time Ironman triathlete, he embodied resilience and determination. His passion for life extended far beyond endurance sports—he was also an avid guitarist, yeti enthusiast, photographer, and traveler who cherished hiking, backpacking, and exploring the world. Whether conquering the trails or making memories with loved ones, David’s spirit for adventure was endless.
Above all, David was remembered for his hilarious antics, infectious laughter, and his unique ability to make everyone feel like they were part of his family. His profound friendships and genuine generosity towards others were a testament to the kind of man he was. David lived with the belief that life is beautiful and should be embraced at every turn, inspiring all who knew him to do the same.
