David's obituary
It is with profound sadness the family announces the passing of David Winton Richey who died suddenly at home on Saturday, February 5, 2022.
David was born in Halifax, February 2, 1954, to Robert and Shirley (MacLeod) Richey. He is survived by his wife, Lorraine (White) Richey, their seven children, Matthew (Liz), Scott (Sara), Christine (Trevor), Allison (Sven), Adrienne, Laurel and Anna. He is also survived by his father, Robert ‘Bob’ Richey and siblings, Brian (Denise), Karen, Carol (Gordon), James (Heather) and Janet, as well as seven adored grandchildren, Autumn, Cordelia, Harvey, Layla, Oliver, Rowan, and Sacha, and many nieces and nephews. He is predeceased by his mother, Shirley.
David is a graduate of J.L. Ilsley High School, University of King’s College (1975), and Dalhousie Law School (1978). He dedicated his career to practicing law in Dartmouth, NS, until his retirement in 2016. When not in the office, David spent time as Chairman of the Board of Directors for the Nova Scotia Hospital in Dartmouth. He was a proud member of the Cole Harbour Kiwanis Club where he served a term as President, as well as Lieutenant Governor of Eastern Canada and the Caribbean. David was passionate about environmental preservation which was expanded through his involvement with Solar Nova Scotia. He also enjoyed helping at the North Grove Community Food Centre.
David was a proud father who devoted as much of his time as possible supporting the many passions his children embarked on. He attended every concert, dance recital, play, art show, sports meet or game, as well as driving to rehearsals, meetings, and training. In retirement, David enjoyed the outdoors and was often seen pole-walking in nearby neighbourhoods and parks and would meet with other members of the CARP (Canadian Association of Retired Persons) Halifax Walking Club.
Arrangements are under the care of Cole Harbour Funeral Home & Crematorium. Due to Covid-19 there will be no visitation.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in memory of David to the North Grove Community Food Centre or a charity of your choice. A family service will later take place at Emmanuel Anglican Church, Reverend Michelle Bull, presiding. Interment will take place at a later date.
