A memory from my Uncle David that still makes me smile to this day shows his generosity and humour. We were visiting America when he and Paula had just adopted Melia. As I was playing with her he asked me, "What are you doing next next year?"
I replied, "I'm going to Uni to do a degree."
He then followed with, "Do you fancy staying here to help look after Melia? You can stay here I'll get you a car and set you up with one of the lifeguards at the pool!" Whilst I was up for it, my Mum was not so... I always hoped he was serious, but I remember the twinkle he had in his eye when he asked the question whilst looking at my mum (his sister Sally).
You will be greatly missed. Love your nephew Rob Shaw

Thanks Dad for all that you did for me. You were a very difficult person but I look back at all the pictures and remember the happy times and how devoted you were to me
the horses and my education. I had amazing opportunities that I am so thankful for them. It seems one of your biggest goals in life was to make sure we all graduated college and became successful. You had a big heart and were very generous and lots of random people can attest to those endearing qualities of yours. Fly vultures fly. You had a strange way of showing love but we knew you did. You definitely lived life to the fullest. RIP.

High School Graduation. He said I could go to any College of my choice. So my Mom bought me a sweat shirt that said Horse Show University😆 He didn't think that was funny. He was so worried about us being successful. He convinced me to go to Virginia Intermont for it was 3.5 hours from his house and he visited me often. We would eat at the Martha Washington and then go to his favorite pub after. He came at least 1x a month.

College graduation; no one ever thought I would go including myself. I wanted to skip College and go straight into the horse world. He threatened to cut me off and that was scary. So as long as I could take my Horse and my car I would go. DEAL. I loved it so much I ended up double majoring. To be honest I could have easily done it in 4 years but I milked it and made it last 5😆😆 for it was a blast. I never told him that🤫. Before this picture all he did was check to make sure there were 2 diplomas like he didn't believe I had 2 majors. Super Thankful to my parents for having this opportunity. Even my horse went to college.

Every birthday while in college dad would allow me to have a lavish party and invite friends. We would rent out a room or take a limo to a fancy restaurant and have a blast. He loved to party. I think this was my 21st.

Dads devotion to the hurry up and wait nonsense at a show. He loved this horse called Capital Gain (CJ) He always joked how his name was such the opposite of what was really happening. 😁

My Dad came to almost every show until he moved to Charlotte. He would spend many weekends polishing my boots, offering water and helping out. When we leased Cinnamon when I was younger he would always drive me out on the weekends it was a one way 45 minute drive.
My dad is a huge reason I am the rider I am today. He always took me horseback riding. The local stables where my sister went would not allow me to ride until you were 7 but my Mum and him found somewhere I could start younger for I was obsessed. It was a big deal to go to Taten Park and before we moved to the US Joe allowed me to go (you had to be a certain age) and my sister rode Velvet her favorite. Our whole family would go riding together on the weekends.
David was one of a kind in all ways & arguably the best Manager I had in my career at ICI and beyond. Driven by his heart both professionally and personally proved key to his success in both realms. He gave me multiple opportunities through his generosity and memories galore. I considered him a friend first and coworker second.
I send a piece of my heart to the entire family. 💝

Perhaps my first riding experience... a friend dropped off a donkey as a joke and my Dad tied a carrot to a stick to try and make him go😆
