David's obituary
It is with heavy hearts that we announce the unexpected passing of David "Sickie" Lee Viray, 41, of Silver Spring, MD. He passed away on August 22, 2023, surrounded by his family and loved ones, leaving behind a legacy of joy, creativity, and an enduring love for people. He had an immense passion for art and his artistic talents will be remembered forever.
David was born on September 23, 1981 to Ruben and Magdalina Viray on a U.S. military base in Seoul, South Korea. A joker from the very beginning, it was clear that David would make others laugh. He was an obvious artist from a very young age, with art being his favorite subject in school. Some of his favorite activities were drawing in a sketchbook or painting on a canvas.
After graduating high school, he decided that he wanted to pursue beauty school and a career in cosmetology. He studied at the American Beauty Academy and attended Hair Expressions - Paul Mitchell Partner. Shortly after, he earned his cosmetology license and worked at BeScene Studios. He also held some jobs in the food industry, Cinnabon, Olympia Coffee Shop, and Chipotle to cultivate his creativity. David recently realized his dream of running his own business, SickieDuz1t Studios. David's artistic soul found expression in myriad forms, with a deep passion for everything related to art. From his eye-catching and innovative hairstyles that were a canvas for his creativity, to his captivating tattoos - his talents knew no bounds.
He was a cosmetologist, hairstylist, tattoo artist, lyricist, and above all, he was a loving father, son, brother, uncle and dear friend to many. He touched the lives of countless people with his charismatic personality. His infectious humor and boundless social nature made him a cherished friend, a beloved family member, and a cherished companion. Anyone who knew David knew that he was a special soul for he had a huge heart and contagious personality. He stayed smiling and kept us entertained with his ludicrous stories. David's genuine and caring spirit meant that he would go to any length to elicit a smile, for he believed that his own happiness was intrinsically linked to the happiness of those around him. He was a testament to the power of laughter, art, and love.
Our family was not expecting the loss of David to be cut so short so soon. We are devastated by this loss but we will cherish our happy times with him and his memory will no doubt live on forever. His playful, loving and caring nature will continue to resonate in our hearts. David, we will never forget you and we will always love you. Until we are reunited with you in paradise, rest easy. His memory will forever be cherished by those who had the privilege of knowing him. As we mourn the loss of a bright talented star, let us celebrate and find comfort in the laughter he shared, the beauty he created, and the love he so freely gave.
In the tapestry of life, David's thread may have been cut too short, but its vibrant colors will forever remain woven into the hearts and memories of all who were fortunate enough to know him. Rest in heavenly peace, dear David, and may your spirit continue to inspire us to live life to the fullest.
