David's obituary
David Maurice Turman, 67, of Columbia, South Carolina, passed away on April 17, 2026. Beloved father, grandfather, and friend, he will be deeply missed and forever remembered by all who knew and loved him.
David was born on March 23, 1959, in Brooklyn, New York, the son of Genva Turman.
A man of God whose faith guided his life, David was also a proud veteran of the United States Army, serving his country honorably for four years. Following his military service, he built a dedicated career with the New York City Transit Authority (MTA), where he worked hard and faithfully to provide for his family before retiring.
David experienced deep love and loss in his lifetime. He was preceded in death by his first wife, the mother of Maurice and Marcel Turman, who passed away in 2002 after a courageous battle with breast cancer. With his passing, he now rejoins her in eternal rest.
In his final season of life, David relocated to Columbia, South Carolina, where he spent his remaining days surrounded by love and family. He was cared for and supported by his son, Marcel Turman, daughter-in-law, Shay Turman, and his cherished grandchildren: Theodore Turman, Juliette Turman, Shyla Turman, and Robert Bell.
David was a man of strength, character, and unwavering presence. He lived life on his own terms, unapologetically and with conviction, and those who knew him understood the depth of his love and loyalty.
His children survive him: Marcel Turman, Maurice Turman, and Marcus Turman, as well as his extended family and his separated spouse, Trina Stroman.
David’s legacy lives on through the family he loved, the values he instilled, and the strength he passed down. He will be deeply missed and forever remembered.
David is currently entrusted to the care of Leevy’s Funeral Home of Columbia, South Carolina.
Service arrangements will be announced at a later time.
Interment will take place in New York, where he will be laid to rest.
