David's obituary

David was born on March 2, 1965 in Brooklyn, New York to Ruth and Myron Weinstein. He was a charismatic child with many friends, winning the hearts of all of the mothers in his neighborhood.

In the early 1980s, David worked in restaurants and soaked up time on the beach with close friends from Key West to Fire Island. David arrived in Provincetown, Ma. in the summer of 1986. As a Culinary Institute of America graduate, David became a fixture at Franco’s Hideaway where he was an integral part of all aspects of the restaurant. David’s passion for food, service, and hospitality traveled to many local restaurants over the years, most recently including the Mews and Front Street Restaurant.

Prior to starting out on his own, David worked for Rafanelli Events for seventeen years. His kindness, determination, and unflappable personality made their celebrations and parties a better place one event at a time. From Provincetown, to Istanbul, to the White House, to Palm Beach his presence made special events just… beyond. Most recently, David haved moved out of Provincetown to start a new adventure where he took over Villa Coral in Vieques, Puerto Rico, fulfilling a lifelong dream of running a guest house.

David’s love of food and meeting new people fueled his passion for international travel and adventure. He deeply enjoyed playing tennis at the Provincetown Tennis Club, befriending every dog in sight, and getting away to Disney as often as he could. Through all of his adventures, he always made time for his family, often staying with his sister or mother in New York for a few days before hitting the road for his next trip.

Never one to let his opinions go unstated, David’s affinity for fine detail was interwoven through his personal and professional life. Creating beautiful, intricate experiences for people brought him great joy. He would light up a room the minute he walked into it, and then take a few minutes to rearrange the furniture. He was known for his witty sense of humor, epic charm, and generous spirit. He had a knack for connecting with people and was a true friend to those who had the honor to work and play with him around the globe.

David was preceded in death by his sister, Lori Placido, and father, Myron Weinstein. He is survived by his mother, Ruth Moses; half-brother, Barry Semel-Weinstein; niece, Taylor Placido; nephew, Nicholas Placido; cousins, Sue and Russ Pollack and Terry Degatano; and many loving friends.

In lieu of flowers, please remember David by making a contribution in his honor to The Lily House at www.thelilyhouse.org. A memorial will be held in the spring in Provincetown, Ma.
