David "Curly" Norman Shaffer, age 84, of El Cajon, California passed away March 29, 2025. He leaves behind children Cynthia and Kurt Kaufman, Alfonso Shaffer, Barry and Manoly Shaffer, Renato Shaffer, Charley and Valarie Shaffer, and Kimberly Gray, grandchildren, and great grandchildren along with his extended family and friends.

David was born in New Castle, Pennsylvania to Norman and Grace Shaffer. His family traveled to many states in his early years, finally settling in Moscow, Idaho, where he and his sister Barbara went on to attend Moscow High School. 

He joined the United States Navy at the age of 17, served as an Operations Specialist and retired as a Chief Petty Officer after 22 years of service.  After retiring from the U.S. Navy, he began a career as a letter carrier in the City of San Diego for the U.S. Postal Service. He retired from the postal service after 20 years. 

He enjoyed attending American Legion meetings, and continued to be involved with the National Association of Letter Carriers. He lived life to the fullest, and had a great love of travel and exploring his ancestry. He was a dedicated family man and enjoyed spending time with his loved ones. He had a youthful spirit, always finding the humor in life.
Our family is grateful to know that he is finally at peace. 

A memorial service will be held at Miramar National Cemetery on Friday May 23rd, 2025, at 2:00 PM to honor David's life.
