David's obituary
David Schuman, 64, unexpectedly departed this life on 3/28/23 following cardiac arrest in Monterey, CA, surrounded by his heartbroken family.
Born in Newark, NJ to Arnold & Miriam Schuman. He grew up in West Orange, NJ graduating Mountain High School in 1976; a stand out, all-star baseball player. He was a business student at Seton Hall University and a walk on to the Varsity Baseball team. He earned a spot in the starting line up as a freshman and excelled from there, drafted by the Baltimore Orioles franchise in 1979, the same year he met his adoring wife of 42 years, Patti Piccola Schuman.
Following his baseball years, they quickly created a beautiful family, with three children. Dave worked in sales for the family business, American Commercial Equipment in Irvington, NJ before moving his family to raise the kids in Orleans, Cape Cod, MA where he and Patti opened The Blue Moon Deli & Bistro and he honed his culinary talents, renown for his exceptional NY style pizza and bagels. In the 1990s, Dave entered the world of telecom sales, excelling at AT&T, Lucent, Opterna & Suttle; his forte in the fiber optics field. As empty nesters, they moved to Tampa Bay and later Carlsbad, CA to be closer to their children and grandchildren. At the time of his death, Dave was a respected Vice President of the service providers market at UCL Swift.
He never “lost his hustle”; a lifelong learner, a loyal baseball (NY Yankees & SHU Pirates) fan, road cycling enthusiast and a consummate baker but primarily, a steadfast family man.
