David's obituary

DAVID ROBERT MILLER

April 20 1953 - November 25 2025

Beloved father and husband David Robert Miller, 72, of Hackensack, NJ passed away on November 25, 2025, following a tragic accident.

He was born in the Bronx, NY on April 20 1953, the son and firstborn child to George and Helen Miller. David attended Queensborough Community College where he earned an Associate’s degree in Business Administration from 1971 to 1973. His successful career in sales and marketing began at Scott Labs in Rhode Island from 1973 to 1975, before returning to New York City, where he lived and worked in the West Village as a chef at the White Horse Tavern, from the late 1970s until the early 1980s. In 1980, he met his first wife Laura Enos of New York, they were married in 1988 and were divorced in 1994.

From 1984 to 1986, David became a sales and marketing manager for Inorganic Coatings, where he worked on what would be one of the most significant moments in his sales and marketing career. He assisted in the coating process and sales contract of the gold leaf torch on the iconic Statue of Liberty, becoming a refined look to an American treasure and paying homage to his Russian-Jewish grandparents, who journeyed to America at the turn of the 20th century, seeking a new life. The Statue of Liberty project became one of his favorite projects.

In 1987, David joined Hempel Coatings USA Inc, where he became an industry leading sales and marketing manager for over 20 years. Specializing in direct sales and marketing to the Marine and Transportation Industries on a national and international level. Coordinating sales and marketing strategies with the global shipping container market, in addition to representing the company at industry meetings, functions, and exhibitions in Europe, Asia and the United States. He stepped down from his post at Hempel in 2007 to care for his mother who had dementia and his younger sister Laura, a quadriplegic with advanced MS.

David is survived by his loving wife and partner of 18 years, Jodi Blackwell Miller and their son Miles Blackwell. He is also survived by his younger sister, Laura Miller of Denver, CO, a cousin Frank and his wife Carolyn of Ardsley, NY and many life long friends including Hal and Melissa Bernstein. David was a family man at heart, a die hard Yankees fan, a fabulous cook, who learned everything he knew about cooking from his Russian and Spanish grandmothers, he was a loving and supportive father and husband, a devoted brother and son, a cousin and a friend to everyone he met.

The family is planning a memorial service next spring in Cape May, NJ. Details to follow
