David's obituary

David Brian Ritenour was born in Charleston, South Carolina on December 22, 1964, to LtCol (Retired) Donald and Patti Ritenour. Brian was proud to be part of a military family and was fortunate to live in South Carolina, California, Illinois, and Kansas. After graduating from Derby High School in Derby, Kansas, in 1983, Brian attended Wichita State University and Kansas State University where he graduated with a degree in Business Management in 1988. During his college years, Brian was a Yell Leader and a proud member of the Sigma Nu fraternity where he also served one year as President. Post-graduation, Brian worked for Sigma Nu Fraternity traveling the United States to establish new chapters and revitalize struggling ones.

Brian wed Amy (Varney) in Kansas City in 1993. They raised three wonderful children: Caleb (23), Grayson (18), and Emma (17). Their family enjoyed many adventures while living in Ohio, California, Connecticut, North Carolina, and Colorado. In 2010, the family moved to Grapevine, Texas where Amy began her teaching career and they continue to reside.

Brian enjoyed a successful career in sales and marketing; working as a business executive in many corporations. Most recently, Brian was employed at Gannett in Dallas. Brian’s charismatic and big personality inspired his work colleagues, friends, and family that they could accomplish great things.

In 2018, Brian became passionate about his relationship with Jesus which was life changing and evident to his family. He joined 121 Community Church and loved being part of the men’s group.

Brian was a devoted father who was driven to help his children become the successful, resilient, talented, and faith-filled people they are today. Brian was thrilled when Caleb and Grayson followed in his footprints and were also initiated into Sigma Nu.

Brian’s favorite hobby was scuba diving and on January 11, 2020 he died of a heart attack while scuba diving in Nassau, Bahamas.

Brian is survived by Amy and their children; his father Donald Lamont Ritenour (Nadine); and siblings Cheryl Spears (Matt), Susan Crosby (Bob). In-laws Don Varney, Christy Pierce (Ben) and Brian Varney (Amy). Brian was the beloved uncle of Tyler Johnson(Michelle), Parker Crosby(Natalie), Brogan Sittema(Robbie), Corey, Annie and Benji Pierce and Claire, Anna and Chase Varney; as well as a great uncle to Jaylon Johnson, Emma Johnson, Brighton Crosby and Finley Crosby. Brian was preceded in death by his mother, Patti Ritenour in 2011.

Brian will be lovingly remembered by Amy, Caleb, Grayson, Emma, his extended family, and the many friends who knew him. The family requests that memorial gifts be directed to the Ritenour family to help with medical bills and college funds through www.gofundme.com/f/brian-rite…
