David's obituary
David Ploth, 79, of Lindenhurst, NY, passed away on January 01, 2023 suddenly after suffering a heart attack in East Windsor, New Jersey.
David was born on January 30th, 1943 to Edward and Adelaide Ploth in Oceanside, NY . After graduating from Oceanside High School in 1961, he went onto college in Chicago, Illinois. After college, he met Martha Starr, and they wed on September 21st, 1968 in Oceanside, NY. They went on to have two children, Rebecca (50) and Christopher (48). After caring for his wife Martha during her long battle with diabetes, David became a widower in 1998. A few years later, he fell in love again and married Sandra Perito on September 18th, 2005.
David was a force of nature, determined to provide for his family and give them the life he felt they deserved. His family meant more to him than anything else in the world, something he often mentioned. He was unendingly proud of his children, grandchildren and his wife Sandy and always tried his best to support them.
David was also a passionate volunteer and one of the most faithful people we all knew. He could often be found giving of his time to a local shelter or speaking at his local church. He was an Elder in his church, as well as a Trustee with the Presbytery of Long Island and an Interim Presbyterian speaker. He enjoyed a great love of all sports, reading, spending time with his grandchildren and eating out at his favorite restaurants. Anyone who knew David knew that he was the most loving father and husband a family could ask for.
David was predeceased by his mother and father, Edward and Adelaide Ploth, as well as his older brother Richard. He is survived by his daughter Rebecca, son Christopher, daughter in law Maria as well as Sandra's adult children John, Lisa and Michelle whom he had great affection for. He is also survived by his 11 grandchildren Cody, Ethan, Luke, Liam, Madeline, Maja, Makenzy, Aidan, Madison, Caitlin and Reagan, whom he adored wholeheartedly.
The family requests that in lieu of flowers, donations to either of his most beloved charities - the American Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (ASPCA) or St. Jude's Children's Research Hospital - can be made in his memory.
There will be a wake in his honor on Saturday, January 7th from 2 - 4 and 6 - 8 PM at Johnston's Funeral Home, located at 305 North Wellwood Avenue, Lindenhurst NY. For those who wish to attend, a funeral service will be held at his home church, the Westminster United Presbyterian Church at 12 noon, located at 109 Udall Road, West Islip, NY.
