David's obituary
David L. Pitts (70) of LaGrange, KY quietly passed away on 15 July 2025. He was born in Los Angeles, CA on 24 September 1954 to Donovan Royal and Ruth Elaine (Kohl) Pitts. David was raised in Sacramento, CA and graduated from Foothill Senior High School in 1972. Upon graduation from high school, he enlisted in the United States Navy originally stationed aboard two Navy ships, one of which was home-ported in Sasebo, Japan. Following his initial enlistment, he spent the next eight years serving in the Ready Reserves, working full time, and attending college. David graduated from California State University, Sacramento with a BS degree in Business Administration. In 1984, he recalled to active duty and spent the next 16 years in various centers, units and afloat platforms supporting Naval Reserve Programs. His naval career ended in Corpus Christi, TX in June 2000. He is a member of the Fleet Reserve Association, the American Legion, and a life member of the Naval Enlisted Reserve Association. David's second career was his most treasured, and yet, most demanding job as he mentored young student cadets as a Naval Science Instructor with two high schools in Corpus Christi, TX. Flour Bluff High School was a nationally recognized NJROTC Unit in academics, physical fitness and military drill. In all, he proudly wore the Navy uniform for 39 years. Finally, in 2012, he and his wife moved to LaGrange, KY to be close to their kids and their families.
A devoted husband, father and grandfather, David is survived by his wife of 44 years, Terri Lynn (Standlee), son Jason (Susan) Smith, daughter Megan (Thomas) Creagh, grandsons Deacon and Dylan, and granddaughters Norah, Eilley & Autumn.
The family will hold a memorial service to celebrate his life on 23 August 2025 at 2:00 pm.

At a later date, David's ashes will be interred at the Central Kentucky State Veterans Cemetery in Radcliff, KY. In lieu of flowers, David's family asks friends and family to submit a donation to the Children and Adults with Attention-Deficit/Hyperactivity Disorder (CHADD) organization.
