David's obituary

David Paul Henderson peacefully passed Saturday February 17th, 2024, surrounded by loved ones.

David was born May 4th, 1983, in Cheboygan MI. The many connections he made throughout his life earned him various nicknames. Bubba, Dave, Hendo, “Jr”, Funcle Dave, Coach Hendo, and “The Dave”.

David was the loving husband for 19 years of Lauren Henderson:

Beloved son of Dave and Kelly Henderson: Proud father of: Isabella, Austin, Jaxon and Carson: Grandson of Sam Steele, Adolf Kipper, the late Jim and Nancy McDonald, and the late Paul and Rosemary Henderson: Brother of Jessica (Anthony) Belmonte: Uncle of Francesca, Anthony, Angelo, Calvin, Sydney, Jack, and Andrew: Son in law of Dr. Michael and Sheila Bielawski: Brother in law of Shane (Kim) Beisel, Shanon Cassa, Anne (Brad) Zimmer, Aaron (Tara) Bielawski. He also leaves behind several aunts, uncles, cousins, and an entire community of friends and neighbors.

At a young age, Bubba loved playing sports, especially hockey, and dreamed about being a soldier. He always had a smile on his face, proudly wore the #9, enjoyed weekends up north at the cottage and going to classic car shows with his dad and grandpa.

Hendo proudly served his country in the U.S. Army from April 2002 until he was honorably discharged in September 2008. He continued to serve in the Army Reserves until 2010. He completed two tours in Iraq during Operation Iraqi Freedom and earned countless awards and commendations throughout his time in the service.

Dave married Lauren, the love of his life in 2004 between the two tours he served in Iraq. Despite their young age and the challenges they faced, they honored their vows until the very end. They lived in multiple locations before finally settling in their forever home in Troy, MI in 2009.

He continued supporting the military through his career at TACOM. His passion to serve his country led him to volunteer for a 5-month civilian deployment to Afghanistan in 2013, where he received the achievement medal for civilian service from the department of the Army for exceptional service.

His kids referred to him as “a kid at heart” because he was constantly playing and laughing alongside them while doing what they loved. He always found a way to make individual time for each kid and was a true example of unconditional love.

Coach Hendo’s selfless commitment to Troy youth sports were felt everywhere from baseball to basketball to football. If your athlete has played ball in the last ten years, Dave and his family have touched your life. Go Hens!

David poured his heart and soul into everything he did. He loved helping others and making them feel loved through his sense of humor and infectious smile. He has touched numerous people throughout his short life and will be dearly missed.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Dave’s family to help support his wife and children in planning for their future.
