David's obituary

David Lee Negaard, age 79, of Sartell, MN, passed away on April 26, 2024 surrounded by his loving family. Born in St. Cloud on March 23, 1945, to Ted and Frances Negaard, David was the seventh of nine children. A 1963 graduate of St. Cloud Tech High School, he served in the United States Army, where he was honorably discharged and received many medals for his service. He married Joan Langendorf on April 22, 1967, and together they raised three children.

David dedicated his career to the optical industry, where he was highly regarded for his expertise and meticulous work. David also expressed his creativity as an artist; his skillful hands were not only evident in his professional life but also in his hobbies, which included glass etching, woodworking, building miniatures, and gas-powered boats and airplanes.

David was a free spirit. He had a love and passion for the great outdoors. He enjoyed fishing, hunting, and camping, which he shared that love with his family and friends. He lived life as an adventure, cherishing moments spent alongside loved ones and creating memories that will live on in our hearts forever.

He also enjoyed playing darts, poker, yard games, and just laughing around a campfire with his family and friends.

David is survived by his beloved wife of 57 years, Joan; children, Heather (Steve Burdick), Joelle (Jason Duerr), and Shane (Tiffany); and 7 grandchildren, Cade, Cody, Olivia, Darren, Anabel, Casidy, and Ryan. His surviving siblings are Roger (Gail) Negaard, Joyce Baird, Janell (George) Sweet, Judy (Larry) Knosalla, and sister-in-law Pat Negaard, and many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; brothers Kenneth (Pat), James, Ronn (Phyllis), and Gary Negaard; and nephews Jay and Eric Negaard.

Above all else, David will be remembered for his warm and kind heart, boundless generosity, sense of humor, and unwavering love for his family.

“Your life was a blessing, your memory a treasure. Your love is still my guide, and though I cannot see you, you are always by my side and forever in my heart.”
