David's obituary
David, known as Dave to his many lifelong friends, was born in Chillicothe, Ohio in 1954 and called many communities home, including MacArthur, Cambridge and Waverly, before the family settled in Vandalia, Ohio at Aullwood Children’s Farm in 1964. David graduated from Vandalia Butler High School with the class of 1972, and later studied art, drawing and sculpture, and was a particularly avid student of Bing Davis at the Riverbend Art Center. David worked for over 40 years as a bricklayer and master of all thing’s masonry, as well as carpentry, he was responsible for building literally hundreds of office buildings, churches, industrial facilities, homes and other structures, including the historically accurate outdoor baking ovens for Carriage Hill MetroPark; he had recently retired in 2017. He was an avid reader, a longtime fan of the works of J.R.R. Tolkien, Stephen King and others. He also enjoyed movies, and always tried to see all the “big films” on opening weekend, following James Bond, the Star Wars Saga, The Lord of the Rings movies, Indiana Jones and many others.
David had a passion for cooking and often presided over family gatherings from behind the grill making his famous “Poppa D” steaks, he hosted countless Friday night pizza parties for friends and family alike, and always made the Holidays special with his black walnut chocolate chews and other treasured treats. He dreamed of opening a restaurant and writing a cookbook, and was working on compiling his recipes with his sister Shay during his final weeks.
David was a lifelong musician, playing baritone, euphonium and trombone in the marching and concert bands at Vandalia-Butler High School, as well as playing guitar in numerous garage bands in the late 60s and 1970s. As his talent grew, he aspired to play like his heroes, Jimi Hendrix, George Benson and Stanley Clarke. He was very proud of owning his Gibson ES 335, and played it often.
David is survived by his loving children Sheldon and Larisa (Max) Rebello, and their mother Deborah Todd (Kobesy), four beloved grandchildren, Kai Mutter, Kellen Mutter, Ashley and Elias Rebello, and one extremely special and beloved great grand-daughter, Lia Sue Edlyn; his loving parents, mother Cecil Mae Beers (Mutter/Thompson) father and step-mother Dane and Priscilla(Arthur) Mutter, his siblings, sister Shay Mutter, and brothers Dane (Joyce) Mutter Jr and Denis (Melissa) Mutter, his brother-in-law Barry McCormack, niece Alexis Mutter and nephews Benson McCormack and Colin Mutter; his step siblings, Kenneth (Gretchen) Beers Jr., Richard (Debbie) Beers, Jeffrey Beers and Heather (David) Klepitsch; his extended family, “step-children” Darla Kibler (Glennon) and her children, Audrey, Adrian, Xamon, Dixie; Kristin Kibler (Walker) and her children Flora, Pearl, Waylon and Ira; and Justin Kibler.
