Dave's obituary
David “Dave” Merrill Morford
August 28, 1954 – October 29, 2025
Donna, Texas | Formerly of Omaha, Nebraska and Council Bluffs, Iowa
David “Dave” Merrill Morford, 71, passed away peacefully on October 29, 2025, in Harlingen, Texas, following a courageous battle with esophageal cancer. Born in Council Bluffs, Iowa, and formerly of Omaha, Nebraska, Dave lived a full and vibrant life defined by laughter, loyalty, and a deep love for his friends, family, and music.
When Dave first shared news of his diagnosis, he wrote:
> “Hello my FB peeps. Most of you are aware but for those of you not, I have been diagnosed with stage 1 cancer of the esophagus. … It’s all good, much love.”
That simple message summed up Dave’s spirit perfectly — optimistic, grounded, and full of heart.
A proud U.S. Army veteran, Dave served with honor at Fort Carson (Colorado Springs) and Fort Bliss (El Paso), as well as in Korea, carrying that same strength and discipline into every chapter of his life. Known for his kindness, humor, and ability to turn any gathering into a good time, he loved fishing in Minnesota, golfing with friends, dancing, and catching live blues shows.
As a member of the Omaha Blues Society, Dave had a deep love for music that told a story — much like his own life did. A lifelong Chicago Cubs fan, he beamed with pride when they won the World Series and surrounded himself with Cubs memorabilia, including a special Cubs bear handmade by a dear friend’s mother that stayed by his side in the hospital.
After moving to Texas with his partner Annette Jensen, the two built a life filled with community and friendship. They loved their home in Victoria Palms, where they shared laughter, connection, and a genuine love for the simple pleasures in life. During the summer, they enjoyed a fantastic Alaskan cruise with Annette and his family, a treasured memory made possible thanks to his daughter Serenity. On that trip, they went panning for gold, fishing for salmon, and soaking in the breathtaking views — an adventure that captured Dave’s joy for life perfectly.
Dave looked forward to his weekly golf outings and Tuesday poker nights, where he and Annette were surrounded by friends who quickly became like family. He adored animals — often sacrificing his own comfort just so a cat or dog could continue their nap on him — a perfect reflection of his gentle soul.
Dave is survived by his partner Annette Jensen, his sister Suzi Vanderpool (Steve), his daughter Serenity Clark (Jon Kozisek), and his grandson Skye Clark (Yvonne). He also leaves behind lifelong friends who were like brothers to him — Tom Collins (Rita) and Ronnie Breckenridge (Sis) — He is also lovingly remembered by his niece Jill Morrow, nephew Danny (Jenny) Morrow, and many cherished cousins and extended family members who will carry his memory in their hearts along with countless friends from the Omaha Blues community.
A Celebration of Life will be held in Omaha at a later date, where family and friends will gather to share stories, play the music he loved, and remember the man who made life a little brighter for everyone he met.
Dave’s laughter, warmth, and love of the blues, baseball, and the simple joys of life will live on forever in the hearts of those who knew him. Much Love...
