This past Friday, we said goodbye to a soul far too young, David Anthony Light, who left us at the age of 26. His departure has left a void in our hearts, yet in the midst of this profound sorrow, we find comfort in the memories and the essence of who David was – a person who lived his life with a kindness and generosity.
David's approach to life was a testament to the idea that wealth isn't about what's in your bank account, but what's in your heart. Though he may not have had much in terms of material wealth, he was immeasurably rich in friends, family, and the love that surrounded him. His life was a reflection of Matthew 6:21, "For where your treasure is, there your heart will be also." David found his treasure in the people he loved and the lives he touched.
His work ethic was unmatched; David poured himself into everything he did, not for recognition or reward, but because he genuinely cared for everyone, regardless of who they were. David never gave up on anyone. He sowed kindness and compassion, and though we are heartbroken now, the harvest of his love is all around us.
One evening in the desert while camping as a group, David shared a thought that's been a beacon for me ever since. He said, "If I ever died, take care of my family and remember the good things." It was a moment of profound depth. David's life was a parable in its own right, teaching us about love, sacrifice, and the importance of community.
In honoring David's memory, let's cling to Philippians 2:4, "Let each of you look not only to his own interests, but also to the interests of others." This was how David lived every day. He cared deeply for his family, treating friends like family, and strangers like friends.
To David's family, please know he spoke of you with endless love and admiration. You were his foundation, his pride. As we all navigate through this loss, we'll strive to embody the principles David lived by, supporting one another and cherishing the good, just as he wished.
David, your physical presence will be deeply missed, but the spiritual richness you've given to us will forever guide and inspire. Here's to remembering the good things and carrying forward the legacy of love and selflessness you've left us with. You've taught us what it truly means to store up treasures in heaven, not on earth.
