David's obituary
David Lane gained his angel wings on November 04, 2022 at McClure Miller Respite House in the loving care of their staff and with his loving wife and family at his side. David was 78 years old.
David's life would seem too short to many, but those of us who were blessed to be touched by him understand that his existence and the imprint he left on our hearts exceed the quantity of time that he stayed here. He attended Burdett College in Massachusetts where he studied accounting. David served in the United States Army as a personnel clerk in Alaska receiving an Army Commendation Medal and Good Conduct Medals as well as others. David was talented, adventurous and, most of all, loving and caring in many aspects of his life. He began his career in the grocery business at the age of twelve in his father’s meat market and continued until the pandemic when he retired from Price Chopper. He enjoyed spending time and laughing with his family as an amazing husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather.
When David wasn't working or shopping with his wife he could be found attending his grandchildren's sporting events or feeding the birds, squirrels and chipmunks. There was never a time that David did not have a pet in the house, from dogs to dozens of cats, rabbits, mice, fish, frogs, turtles and worms. He loved to fish with his children and grandchildren at Lake Memphremagog. He spent countless hours volunteering for North Avenue and Essex Alliance churches, filling shoe boxes for Operation Christmas Child, making thanksgiving meals, making donations to North End Food Pantry and much more.
Not a day went by where David didn't talk about how much his children and family meant to him - his family was arguably his most important achievement in life. David was dad to some and Papa to many. David is survived by his loving wife Nancy of 55 years, his children, Michael Lane (wife Kelley) and Kathleen Schirling (husband Michael), his grand children Alex Schirling (wife Tiffany), Hannah Schirling (Isaac) and Spencer Lane (Davilyn), and Ashleigh Sammataro (David), great grand children, Aria Schirling, Ella Schirling, Josie Sammataro, in-laws Katherine Leahy (little sister) and David Leahy, as well as countless friends who were also family.
David was predeceased by mother Elizabeth Lane and father Lawrence Lane. A graveside service will be held at Malletts Bay Cemetery in Colchester, Vt on Tuesday, November 8th at 11am. In lieu of flowers, please consider making a donation to McClure Miller Respite House.
