David's obituary
~ David Scott Johnson ~
David Scott Johnson, 55, of Indiana, went home to be with the Lord on December 3, 2025. Born on October 6, 1970, David lived a life defined by hard work, unwavering loyalty, deep faith, and a love for his family that ran wide and deep.
David was the proud father of Kensey, Tristan, and Alex Johnson, stepfather to Dalton (Anita) and the beloved “Papaw” to Layla, Cooper and Izzy, who were the absolute light of his life. Just days before his passing, he was celebrating precious moments with his family—bringing birthday gifts for Izzy and hanging his gold Christmas bell on the tree. His children and grandchildren were his joy, and he loved them deeply.
David was part of a big, close, beautifully complicated family who weathered life’s storms together. He is preceded in death by his loving mother, Patricia Crouse (Hiner), and his father, Robert Johnson. He is survived by his stepfather, Michael Crouse, and by his wife, Susie Johnson.
David was unforgettable to all who knew him. One of his brothers shared, “My brother had an unbelievable work ethic, a big heart for Jesus, and love for his family.”
A true farm kid at heart, David loved animals, the outdoors, and the simple joys of growing up in 4-H. Those early years shaped who he became—hardworking, dependable, and endlessly dedicated to the land he loved. He was passionate about raising world-renowned German Shepherds imported from Germany and took enormous pride in tending his farm. David had passions as strong as his character. He loved the land, the work, and he loved Susie and his family wholeheartedly.
David was a man of simple, steady loyalties. His favorite superhero was Batman, a character whose toughness, quiet strength, and resolve mirrored much of David’s own spirit. He loved baseball—especially the Cincinnati Reds.
He leaves behind a legacy of love, faith, grit, and generosity. David was a protector, a provider, a helper, and a deeply imperfect yet deeply good man. For those who loved him, life will never be quite the same—but neither will it ever be untouched by the memory of who he was. David is reunited in heaven with his parents, free from the burdens of this world. And here, in the hearts of the many who miss him, his memory will live on.
A MESSAGE OF HOPE
If David could speak to us today, he would remind us of the One he leaned on through every season of his life—his Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. David’s faith was not perfect, but it was real. And as we face the weight of this loss, we are reminded that tomorrow is never promised, but eternity is.
So, in this moment, we simply invite you to consider the hope that carried David home—the hope of Jesus.
A hope that forgives.
A hope that restores.
A hope that meets us right where we are.
Scripture tells us, “Everyone who calls on the name of the Lord will be saved.” (Romans 10:13)
