David's obituary

Mr. David Hochstetler, USAR, age 75, of Mt. Vernon, died Wednesday, February 23, 2022, near his home from injuries received in a motorcycle accident.  He was born in Iowa City, Iowa, grew up Millersburg, Ohio, and moved to Sarasota, Florida and enlisted in the U.S. Army.  He retired after twenty years as First Sergeant, and served one tour of duty in Vietnam in Special Forces, Green Beret.  He was stationed in Korea, Okinawa, and Germany, moving to Montgomery County in 2003, and was a member of Veterans of Foreign Wars.  After his military career, he worked in civil service for ten years, and later was owner/operator of DJH Trucking.  Preceding him in death are his parents, David and Anna Hochstetler; and four siblings, Omar Hochstetler, Dwight Hochstetler, William D. Hochstetler, and Robert Hochstetler.

His family includes his wife of fifty-four years, Ruth Dixon Hochstetler, USAR of Mt. Vernon; four daughters, Tammy Shank Mura and husband John of Atlanta, Anna Vanessa Hochstetler Eddins and husband Sonny of Sherrills Ford, North Carolina, Teresa Lynn Hochstetler Nichols of Lincolnton, North Carolina, and Ashley Hochstetler Adams of Mt. Vernon; seven siblings, Catherine Troyer and husband Eli, Susanna Miller and husband Albert, Joseph Hochstetler and wife Ruby, Jacob Hochstetler and wife Cynthia, John Hochstetler and wife Vangie, Sarah Strader, and Rachel Troyer and husband Loren; five grandchildren, Heather Petty, Tyler Bingle, Autumn Hodges, Anna Adams, and Aaron Adams; three great-grandchildren, Ayden, Wyatt, and Ren; and numerous nieces and nephews.

The funeral service will be Monday, February 28th, at 11:00 a.m. in the chapel of Ronald V. Hall Funeral Home with Pastor BL Horne and Pastor James Love officiating.  Burial will follow in Georgia Veterans Memorial Cemetery in Glennville.

The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Monday morning from 9:30 until just prior to the service.
